Society demanded faster ways to transport ourselves, to feed ourselves, to go shopping, etc. Did life really become more complicated? After all, we only had one vision when all these time saving methods were invented. It was getting more from our lives, and spending less time doing the things we don't want to do. Surely simplifying the language was always going to inevitably be a by-product of the TV-dinner lifestyle?

I think I might have missed your point....

Simple language is sufficient. A toddler can convey meaning. Language is for communication and the only way it falls down is if meanings or definitions are misconstrued. It is the complicated and disparate motives of modern life that make concerted meaning fall short.

The fact that we can communicate this obscure point belies the premise that English is somehow a blunt or vulgar instrument.

English is a non-descriptive language so that people in power can get away with saying long stretches of wonderful sounding statements that ultimately mean nothing.

Orwell wrote a lot of interesting stuff about this. See the appendix to Nineteen Eighty-Four entitled 'The Principles of Newspeak' for his thoughts on the dangers of simplifying language. See his essay 'Politics and the English Language' for his thoughts on the dangers of over-complicating language. There are definite benefits to both; in the end I think it's more or less and issue of finding a proper balance where one can convey meaning richly and vibrantly without either having too few choices or too many vague and ambiguous ones.

I think it's hilarious that the native German speaker was the only person who got EXACTLY what I was saying.

and, further, I think it is demonstrative of my point.

it's data transferred per time consumed, and the precision of that data, without overqualifying it in a manner which makes your use of the language unnatural, I could make every use of the word or specific to it's true purpose, but the amount of infrastructure required would make my manner of speech sound stilted, and overformal

which, lets be honest, it already is nearing in on.

Maybe that's why I always seem so rambling when I try to articulate my thoughts and feelings.
