ok. i don't know about you guys, but here in the city there is a major population of young people (teens+) who dress bohemian and are fashionably hippie. they r wannabe artsy, and they will create little territories and literally name them "the hippie area." it is sooo annoying, especially since all they do is talk about guys and make up, literally. they don't know anything about anything, yet they are uber popular, and i find myself lonely while everyone else listens to their bs. but it is just as lonely being in their group, for me atleast, as they talk about the people i know. i won't talk about the people i think are good people, and i definately won't waste my time talking about the people i don't like. i was just wondering if these aliens r in other parts of the counrty, and not just my borough.
I live in an old hippie town, everyone over the age of 50 is a real hippie, everyone around the age of 40 was raised by real hippies, but everyone in their teens and 20's thinks they are a hippie because they wear some gauzy dress from urban outfitters and wear hemp. its cool though, whatever. I get what you mean though. they are filled with that youthful idealism yet all they speak of are all things superficial
yeah, i'm a youngin', but my peers r completely superficial, to the point that u can't have a conversation with them! it's sooo weird.
I live in Santa Barbara, where there is an enormous amount of privileged young people. You will often come across the sight of a twenty-something in a high-end trendy hippie dress with a Prada back on her shoulder. They crowd the open-air hippie markets during festivals, and are incredibly rude and loud. Even though it shouldn't annoy me, it does. I'm finally moving out of state next year, and I hope to god I don't run across any more of these trendy Bohemian clones.
it's a bit tough being different no matter what style is being worn by the In Crowd. usually it's with a very few select individuals that someone with a desire for more than shallow yadda yadda can find satisfaction in conversation. in larger groups everyone is too busy trying to impress each other and not say something uncool for the conversation to get any deeper than bragging and tedious gossip. next time you're out and about look around the edges of the In Crowd and you'll likely begin to notice others like yourself who don't exactly fit in. strike up a conversation with one or two of your fellow edge dwellers and you might surprise each other with a seldom genuinely known experience called "friendship".
i know what you mean. it seems like all the kids in my age group are so shallow i can see right through them. i hate it. that's why all my friends are like 17-20ish, and not douchenozzles.
They're not specific to Brooklyn, I can tell you that. They exist all the way down here in Florida. I think since "hippie" is the in style, you'll find them in any sufficiently large city. The looks change, the (lack of) substance doesn't.
I was just discussing this topic with some friends of mine the other day. I made an observation at the last music festival I attended. It was the last day of the festival and people were packing up to go home. As I was sitting there eating my campfire breakfast I had to rub my eyes at what I was seeing. There were other younger people nearby who were dressed like bohemian hippies... long hippie dresses, tye dye shirts and bikinis, hemp jewelry and bare feet. They were dressed this way during the entire festival, but before they left they transformed themselves. They put on shoes, took the bandannas out of their hair and put on preppy clothes that look like they came from Macy's. I could not help but think...WTF??? Were they just being "trendy hippies" for the weekend or what?
OH MY GOD!!! I know what you mean! It seems like it's fashionable these days for every second girl to wear the same shit as everyone else, but, when they put on one of those thin little headband things (you know the ones) TADA! They instantly turn into a "hippie" and start saying "peace" and "love" even though they still get into catfights, and have one night stands every saturday night, same as before... And then they see people like me and call us "girls" for having long hair...WTF?! *rant end*
I as well live in an area where many 'cool cats' my age (early 20's) are fashionably 'hippie' or 'boho' but don't share the true open-minded insights. I have encountered many of these creatures; even once to try and talk with one. I tried talking about music, theories, personal insights and experiences and all I seemed to get out of the conversation was..well NOTHING. haha!
Yeah, they are moving targets. Even if you hit them, they keep right on ticking because they are bound only by their judgments.
