How can we have a UK hippy music forum without a thread on Hawkwind?

    http://www.hawkwind.com/

Anyway on Sunday 19th December (for the first time since about nineteen eighty something or the other) I'm off to see them at the Astoria

Is there anyone else left from the old days (or the new days) who still likes them?

Seen Hawkwind a few times over the years. The best gig i ever went to was hawkwind at manchester acadamy in about 95 I think on the Alien tour.
I went on my own took some mushies and had a great time.
Last saw them about 2 years ago.
Nik Turner is playing in manchester soon, whether I go depends on cash flow.

Fuck yeah. Hawkwind own! Got loads of stuff on CD and seen 'em a few times live. Mind you, the best set of classic Hawkwind songs I ever heard was Nik Turner playing in a tent at Glastonbuy!

We missed Nik Turner playing at the assembly rooms by a day a few years ago on our regular pilgrimage to Glastonbury Town. It was on the friday I think and we got there on sat, same happened with Arthur Brown the year before.
Nice place Glastonbury, like to live there sometime.

We used to stay at a B and B on the high street a few times and the people who ran it said that Glastonbury had a lot of 'isssues' with as they put it rednecks.
I think most places are different when you live there and you start to see the otherside.
When weve talked about living there, we have thought that maybe its best going a few times a year, going up the Tor, visiting the chalice Well, spending too much on books and picking up the vibe, and that by living there maybe it would lose its specialness to us. I dont know.

I think you're right. As with all places, the mundanity of life tends to overtake the magic and with somewhere as magical as Glastonbury, I think it's important to hang onto that.

There are problems with 'rednecks' but it also attracts a lot of people who are not mentally healthy and because of the laid back attitude and the positive encouragement of anything bizarre, I don't think it's a particularly healthy place. Over the past month there have been 3 unconnected suicides (at least 2 hippies and all hangings). It seems to be becoming a popular theme at this time of year. And then of course the smack has edged it's way into town. I could go on.......

Glastonbury is a beautiful and unique place, the only way for it to remain that way in your heart is to keep it as a special treat because too much can be bad for you! :)

ayemon, Hawkwind kick ass. I've got silly collection and have been to see them. (Although the gigs do vary considerably from venue to venue). Have you noticed not many people dance at them anymore? Lots of oldies at the back just watching. No room for us younguns.
The Album I normally put on when first dipping into the CDs is Levitation.
Love in space is awesome too.
That cover of the rolling stones song they did is quite beautiful too. Gimme Shelter.
Have you seen 'bedouin' (sp)? They supported them a couple of years ago. Had the baldie bassist dude in them. Now THEY were good. Guitar prog over the top widdly widdlyness.

Hey Paul how much are the tickets for Hawkwind?
I would be pretty cool to go and see them.
I nearly saw 'Muse' that night though one of my friends asked but I declined but I did want to go. But he loves them alot.
