I hear ya, I got a cabin trip in a few weeks... a few movies I enjoy on this subject are Jeremia Johnson, Clan of the Cave Bear, The Edge, and many more I can't think of ATM.

I am the same way. Growing up I just wanted to run away from home and join an Indian tribe. XD.
The book "My Side of the Mountain" was always a favorite. Ever read it when you were young?

Not terrible, just low budget, a movie doesn't need to be a blockbuster to portray a certain theme or idea... Daryl Hannah did a decent job nonetheless.
I'm sure the book was better, it usually is, but since you already read it and had your own imagination about how it should be, you didn't like the movie because it didn't fall into the parameters of your fixed imagination.

You may have thought otherwise if you saw the movie first before the book.

Then again, I like lots of "low budget" movies that others think are bad, maybe I see where others cannot... ah well, each to their own.

I'd suggest you check out Dick Proenneke's documentary Alone in the Wilderness, which details his experiences in the Alaskan wilderness and the process of him building his own cabin.

    Good luck with your adventures.

Dicks documentary was more about him showing off what a jesus he was with making shit out of wood, and not so much about the daily trials that he faced, and things he saw while staying out there.

ooo mountain men. My kind of man.. rough, wild and rugged...
    Practicing my skills now.

Clan of Cave Bear was an ok movie, but talk about FAR from the book. I actually watched the movie first and I wish I read the book first.

    Jeremiah Johnson was good shit.

I live in a "cabin" fulltime now. It's 8x20 and has everything I need. It just has wheels and I pull it behind me. But as far as I'm concerned it's my cabin.
