There is a programme on ITV (maybe just on northern regions) all about the Deeply Vale Free Festival from the 1970's which was held between Bury and Rochdale. Both Nik Turner and Steve Hillage played there.
Apparantly there are plans by the original organiser to restage the festival in 2005. The trailer shows a few a few beardy types having a good time.
I went up to site a few years ago for a mooch and it looks like a good setting for a festival or a free party.

    Hi Col
Was an interesting programme. They spoke to the orginal organisers who raised cash for the festie by putting a 50p surcharge on dope they sold lol.
I recorded it on video as I was knackered last night (few beers in manchester early evening in a pub with cordroy wallpaper and a cheap curry) watched it this morning.
