Hey guy's... I have been looking into extractions for a while (not enough to distinguish different teks yet) and am concerned about actual dangers and what kind of precautions are normally taken. I tend to play shit safe, so i am concerned if a extraction were to be performed in a regular room - would fumes etc be a serious concern... I know due to the acid and lye goggles and gloves are a must, but anything else? Also, another question... If i say got 500g of Mimosa bark, would it be better to just do it pull it all at once as a whole, or split it up into say 2-5 different pulls. The reason i ask is because i read different statements concerning the potency decreasing in time... My plan was kind of to do as big a pull i can, and just stash it and enjoy it over a long period until i run out...
Do the jar method, using about 600ml water + 45g of NaOH + 40g of MHRB per quart jar, shake (add the mhrb only after the jars have cooled from mixing the lye in the water). When your ready to start the washes just put in like 150ml or so of Naptha, roll the jars occasionally for 5-7 hours then pull and evap (or freeze precipitate them). With one 9x13 glass tray you can do about 3 jars at a time (120g of mhrb), if you do 5 washes it will take about 5-6 days to do it. Then you just start over. 500g will take 2 weeks or so unless you can do more jars at a time, dont try to do it all at once theres a greater chance of failure if you do that. I wouldnt worry about the fumes, I leave the evap trays on my kitchen counter with a fan blowing over them... I dont even smell them unless Im standing right next to them. This is a pretty tried and true method, Ive had great success with it... even the first time I tried it I got like 2g's from 250g of MHRB.
I just finished extracting from two Kilos of MHRB and it only took 5 days from start to finish. That was being very liberal with time. Could have done it in 3 days if I had a more structured time frame. White powder! 12g. It maybe sound like a good bit, but for the price I paid for the MHRB, I will not complain one bit(averages out to $4.12/g). I am set for the entire year now!!!
Hmn. Ok. Would the evaporation step be ok to do outside, under a shelter - like a garage? And a question about the used materials... what do i do with the jar full of gunk? I do not have access to chemical disposal...
NaOH is what they use in Drain type cleaners. Just use that to clean the shower from all the hair build-up.
God damn you work fast, I only have two small glass trays so it takes me awhile... I find If I try to do too many jars for each tray it tends to get more resinous instead of crystalline.
You could do the evap outside, but Id try to do it in a fairly clean and closed off area. I did it in my garage once and it got covered in dust and bugs...yuck. I just do it in my kitchen now, its really not that bad. As for disposal, like dynamickid said... just pour it down the drain it wont hurt anything.
I use A/B extraction. and use two one gallon jugs to cold filter and two 750ml bottles to base out, two 150ml mason jars( one to heat naphtha and one to chill dmt rich naphtha in ice water bath) and a crockpot for water bath to heat and pyrex dish to FREEZE Precip out.
The worst thing that can happen is that you spill some caustic soda tea on yourself. Its not the end of the world, if you keep a bottle of vinigar at hand to neutralise any spills and wash your hands with. Eye protection in the form of glasses or goggles is recomended though, unless you want to put vinigar in your eye.
that sounds awesome. i wish i had the space to do an extraction. my live in GF would notice and not be happy. maybe one day i'll get to try DMT though
yo!! I got extreemly lucky snooping round in a janitors closet. I found gallons of D-limonene its used to strip floors or something.. Only additives are h20..
There are actually quite a few dangers from an extraction depending on what tek you use. If you're using Lye, Naphtha then obviously contact and fumes are a problem. In fact, my first extraction had me going quite loopy from breathing Naphtha fumes. That was before I got a mask of course. I also burned my hand with Lye before I got gloves. Also, I washed my powder with Ammonia which is quite stinky and can burn your nostrils (Which I did ). Don't take safety for granted if you do extract. For anyone wondering about DMT extraction, you can get .02% -> 2% yield from an extraction. I got 2g from a 224g extraction.
I would assume it had to be a salt tek as opposed to the standard freebase extraction wth naphta... so there would also be alot of jungle in it.
