Im looking for something kinda Beat, but without the pretentiousness and elitism that seems to pervade through the beat authors Ive read.

hmmm...well...my favorite book that i found a suggestion on here for is "Summer of Love" by Lisa Mason. Its a really cool sci-fi but an easy read and it talks about some really interesting topics. Of course there is always "The Psychadelic Experience" by Timothy Leary. That is a groovy book too.

Well first your going tohave to explain the pretentious elitism they display, and how, and then I would say, read the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Tests by Tom Wolfe.

I've read the electric kool aid test and a bunch of the more well known books like that. Alot of them just come off like they are trying too hard to be sooo out there, it just comes off as pretentious to me, like kids in high school that would act all super crazy, not because they really were crazy, but because they wanted people to know how cool they were, it just comes off as phony to me.

I'll check out those suggestions. Thanks!
