Has anyone ever combed out their dreads and the hair feels really greasy? I mean like before you wash or anything. Every time I brush dreads out the undreaded hair is horrificly greasy and disgusting. I don't even need to use conditioner to help get the knots out.

Also, When I cut my two front dreads off they smelt ever so slightly mouldy. I wonder if the greasy hair is moisture that's been there for ages. It's odd because I shouldn't have mould, they always dry out completely in between washing and I've never noticed a mouldy smell until I cut them two front one's off. Anyone else experience this?

    you cut?

i was having a great day until now!

i got a free bagel from the place under my apt. for breakfast,

    i won a scratch off,

and a police started harrassing me because he thought i wasnt old enough to be smoking a cigarette (im 26) then had a wonderful conversation with him for 45 minutes while wearing my grassroots california hat (cali state flag with a potleaf instead of a star) and he was all like "that logo looks familiar! what is it" and i told him the cali state flag and he didnt even notice the pot leaf and we talked about california and vacations and shit for a while.... real cool guy

but knowing you cut ruined my mood

try washing your hair with 3/4 cup bicarb soda, 2 tablespoons salt, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 8-9 drops of tea tree oil, mixed with enough hot water to cover your dreads (as hot as you can stand it)
leave it on your dreads to really soak in for at least 1/2 an hour and then rinse out

the colour of the water that comes out will be somewhat disturbing, no matter how often you wash them... but nothings better for washing dreads that i've found
the bicarb and salt get rid of grease and dandruff and the lemon and tea tree disinfect and prevent mould from growing :)

Thanks but that's not the answer I was looking for. I don't have any grease problems. The grease sorts it's self out. I just wanted to know if any cutters have greasy hair immediately after brushing. Also I already do bicarb/tea tree washes as it is and the waters always rinsed out clear I know I don't have mould growing there's just a slight smell but there isn't any trace of mould inside. Which is odd and confusing.

I love the fringe! I think greasy hair is better than dry brittle hair..you think? Idk about the mould but at least you can't smell it unless you cut em open

When I cut I cut several of my dreads straight down the middle of them, just out of curiosity, and yes, they were rather greasy on the inside. I just think no mater how often and no matter how rigorously you wash, the inside of the dreads just doesnt get clean. So If they do get mouldy (surprisinlgy mine didnt) It can sort of be expected.

    Another question!

How do you guys with bangs wash them if you only wash your dreads once a week?

Sometimes if I don't go out of the house I tie them back but usually I just rinse them in the sink with some shampoo. Because even though my dreads adjusted to once a week washing my undreaded hair still gets greasy after three days.
