I've had it many times, but only for a minute or shorter.

well last night I had sleep paralysis for about 10 minutes straight. the tv was on, and I recognized the episode so I know how long it was. Hallucinations more real then I've ever seen and it felt like my body was having a seizure even though I was completely still. EXTREMELY terrifying I eventually gave up and accepted death (I had no idea what was going on until close to the end) and basically just sat there hallucinating like crazy (I saw my mom come into the room, laugh at me try and kiss me then start turning the tv on and off.I finally snapped out of it and she was gone.)

i used to get it alot, not so much now, or if i do get it its terrifying when it happens but then by the time i go back to sleep and wake up the next morning i forget about it. its really annoying... i generally have waves of it, like i'll have a ton of times in a certain week and then not have it for a long time.

its weird though, the last bunch of times were times i wouldnt smoke for like a day, fall asleep and have a dream that i was stoned, wake up with sleep paralysis and then think i was really stoned, and feel really "off" for the rest of the day. that happened like 5ish times in a row and i havent experienced sleep paralysis since. or at least, that i can remember.

sleep paralysis isnt the correct term...sleep paralysis happens to everyone because it is a safety measure your body does to make sure you dont hurt yourself when you dream

Sleep paralysis is the correct term.
The term for the thing you are talking about is REM atonia.

But yes, I have experienced this, but it is not a regular thing. It sucked when it happened because I was completely aware I was dreaming, so I wanted to wake up, but couldn't. I tried so hard to open my eyes once I realized I couldn't, it was pretty terrifying. I think I relaxed and when I somehow finally woke up I was expecting my body to be real tense and shit, maybe even the sheets on the ground, but I was just lying there like normal. It was so weird.

I also sort of experienced an OBE with the sleep paralysis, I couldn't move my body but I could like fly my vision around the room and was able to see myself... next time this happens I wanna try and leave my body and wake up my mom or play with my cat (I know this wont happen, but I wanna try anyways :p)

i had this happen about 3 times. scary shit, i thought something was wrong with me until i did research. i was stuck in it for like 30 seconds one time, and(like above) i just accepted i was dying/paralyzed and relaxed and would wake up

This happens to me and with greater regularity now that I have been taking Xanax, so I wonder if the 2 are linked.

I actually just had a very intense, 5 minute or so episode just now as I was FALLING
ASLEEP. I was on the couch with my laptop on my belly and Gladiator playing when I realized I was drifting off to sleep and couldn't move my extremities. I could see fine (no hallucination, though some have been akin to out-of-body experiences in the past).

Yes, I did the research too and yes, even though it is not life-threatening, it can be very scary. From my research, the best way is to relax your breathing (which can be difficult since paranoia certainly comes with it and try and fall asleep. Your body is basically stuck being half awake and half in REM, since your brain (stupid brain, always getting in the way) turns off your body movement (it's a safety precaution during REM to keep us from physically acting out what we are doing in our dreams).

Other advice that has helped me when trying to snap out of it is trying small movements: like moving your tongue or wiggling toes/fingers. Usually, I can't move my head or arms but tonight I was able to move my left leg slightly so I just shook it violently until I awoke (where I promptly shot up and washed the dishes :)).

Hope any of this helps. I found a good link that I shared with some friends on FB I can try and dig up if anyone is interested, just let me know.

Remember "it's all in your head" :). You may feel like you're going to die but the best thing to do is ccalm down and ride it out... kinda like a bad fungus/sid trip.

    Peace

I wish I could experience this, it sounds pretty trippy. Besides intense ass dreams, the only thing that happens to me is I awake in like a half conscience state and move my arms around looking for water because I sleep with my mouth open.

i wonder if i don't "get enough" REM atonia. b/c i've had dreams before where i'm punching someone, and woke up to myself punching the wall next to my bed pretty hard.
usually when a dream involves fighting though, i can't throw a punch to save my life. i'm so weak and my fist will just slide off my opponents face. guess it's b/c i can't really move my body...

my dad told me the scariest sleep paralysis or dream. he called it a dream, i think it might have been sleep paralysis.
he said there was a dark, robed, faceless figure standing at the foot of his bed. he felt like he was awake but couldn't move. he tried screaming to wake my mom up but he couldn't speak. and the figure just said "this is how it's going to be"
my dad also mentioned feeling a pressure on his chest

sometimes when i'm falling asleep, i feel like i'm actually free falling (maybe off the bed?) and it jerks me awake.

I hate that feeling in dreams, where you need to fight something or run away from something and its as if your moving in slow motion, or the air is too thick to move fast enough...I love dreams where I realise im dreaming but I only ever remember my dreams when im half asleep in the morning after being woken up (I lie in for an hour or two in this state usually) I always get really vivid lucid dreams like that though, I love it :D

Yeah Ive gotten that loads of times before..One time I had it when I was fully asleep though. I was dreaming that me and 5 friends were walking along this path on a cliff but I fell and tried to grab on but fell right off and it jerked me awake...the brain fucks you about sometimes..strange. I sort of like that falling feeling, not sure why though :p

i have had sleep paralysis twice before and the 1st time i wasn't freaking out, i tried to get out of my body as an experiment but it didn't work.. then the 2nd time for some reason i had a really eerie feeling and kind of panicked. i don't know why

i've had that falling sensation, too

You will be... it feels like your suffocating, and is quite painful sometimes. plus your delirious during it so most of the time you have NO idea wtf is going on until you snap out of it.

ahhhh that's terrible!! i've NEVER actually been able to 100% fight someone/run away from something in a dream (that i can remember)

it's not even good slow motion either where like you could potentially think out every move ahead of time, it's the gay slow motion that all you're thinking is WHY CAN'T I MOVE MY ARMS RIGHT!!!
