What do you guys think about this idea to amend the constitution to allow foreign born citizens to become president? I personally disagree with it, sort of. I can see why someone who's been here for most of their life might want it changed, but what about someone who moved here more recently?

And I know for a fact I don't want Schwartzenneger (how the fuck do you spell that?) as president. I mean, come on, the terminator?

I don't see the need for it really.... Why should someone from a foreign country be eligible to run this country?

If Hamilton couldn't get the job because of this, then i don't see why Arny should...

I don't see a lot of demand for it.

It seems the only purpose would be to allow Arnold to run.

Arnold is a nazi, and has publically said he admires hitler...I would not want this guy as my president.

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

I mean it makes sense though what if you were born in england but moved here when you were 3. you would never be able to become president even though u lived there your whole life. I think it would be ok.

He said he admired Hitler's speaking skills and his rise from nothing to lead. I admire Hitler's speaking skills too, I wish I could hold a crowd like that.

Arnold's dad was a member of the nazi party and of the SA. Then again gw's dad had some Nazi's in his cabinet and Prescott Bush(gw's grandaddy) laundered money for the Nazi's before and during U.S. involvement in WWII.

There is a huge push by the Republican neocons (as well as alcoholic Ted Kennedy) to get Arnold into office in '08. Of course they know he stands a huge chance of winning because of his fame, and will play their game.

I completely despise the man. He has ties to Enron, ties to the global-elite, including the Rothschild family. He is also a member of Bohemian Grove. And yes, the man has said numerous times that he admires both Hitler and Kurt Waldheim, which isn't surprising, considering he has Nazi blood and that his father was an officer with the SS.

Plus, the guy is totally arrogant and egomaniacal.

I'd like to see anyone else, let alone a Democrat, get away with half the dirt that Arnold has in his past.

The guy is a total scumbag.

So closed minded. I admire Hitler. I find him to be the greatest, most influencial leader of all time. I don't agree with what he did, I doubt Arny does either. But he did convince an entire country to partake in a horrible, horrible act that they never would've done without his "guidance".

Arny has been getting a lot of good things done. Like him or not he is effective, and he has done a lot of good things over the years. I think he's support of Bush is merely party bullshit, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the whitehouse.

Of course they should be allowed to run for president. This racism written into the constitution should have been repealed long ago. Why should foreign born citizens NOT be allowed to run for the presidency? They are citizens just as much as you are.

Too many natural-born citizens have a sense of entitlement. Every American citizen, regardless of their country of origin, should have equal rights, including the right to run for President.

The only reason that requirement for president is even in the constitution is because some of the Founding Fathers wanted to make sure Alexander Hamilton could never be president. It was a political ploy then, and it continues to hamper the cause of equality.

If someone's country of origin means they are not qualified to be the president, then let the voters decide that. But let them run for the office.

I think we should allow people born in other countries to become president but i think there should deffinately be some rules, I wouldnt want someone who came from Iran be a citizen for a year and then run for pres. thats just dangerous.
I dont think Arnold will run for pres. I think itll be Rudy Vs. Hillary, and ill be old enough to vote by then :) so if Badnarik for some reason decides not to run, I'd Gladly give Rudy the first vote of my life :)

Why? Shouldn't the voters be allowed to decide whether the candidate is "dangerous", instead of having blanket restrictions in the constitution?

Because they were born on the otherside of an arbitrary line they have no personal stake on how their country is run? If someone goes through all the trouble of becoming a citizen and assimilating into our culture they should have the same rights as everone else.

Oh please. I don't know where you're comming up with this stuff. Also what does it matter what his Dad did. He is not his father.

The thread was about whether foreign born citizens should be able to run for office anyway.

There'll be no new amendments to the constitution in the next 4 years.
    No need.

    Schwartzenegger will never be president.
No need. Plenty of alternative candidates.

Homosexual marriage will be handled on a state-by-state basis.

Roe V. Wade will be overturned, and then abortion will be handled on a state-by-state basis too. Same results. Homosexual marriage and abortions will be available in MA, NY and DC, but not in KS, UT, or MS.

That doesn't change the fact that he should have the RIGHT to run. I can see a constitutional amendment giving foreign-born citizens the right to run passing both houses of Congress and 3/4 of the states very easily.

I agree with you about gay marriage and abortion though. There's no need (or possibility) of a constitutional amendment dealing with those.

So whats next then? It was right to have freedom back in the 1700s but now there are terrorists, so we shouldn't have it?
Amendments should not be made lightly, preferably not at all...
