Hi there everyone, pleased to meet you

I am a new user seeking some help and advice on menstrual cups. Do any of you use one?

I have recently been considering switching from tampons to a reusable cup, I have read extensively about the health and environmental benefits but would love to hear first hand of any real experiences from you. Would you recommend switching? Do you feel the benefits?

Your thoughts would be extremely helpful

    Thank you!

I tried one. Didn't work so well for me, but why not buy some and make sure?

I use them, and won't go back to tampons again. I find them infinitely superior.

    I love mine.

It didn't take me that long to perfect putting them in easily and comfortably, but it wasn't perfect every time at first, so don't let that put you off! You forget it's there.

I find, though, it's not the best idea to sleep with it in, at least at the beginning of my period.

Anything else I'm sure you would have read about tons - they're absolutely fantastic!

I have only ever heard good things about them, yet I still feel kinda ish about them. I'm not sure I like the idea of them.

When I first heard of them I felt really ish about them. Then I got used to the idea, and one day with my friend we talked each other into trying them. We bought our first mooncups together and neither of us have ever looked back.

I might try one and see. Do they feel similar to tampons? I'm not a big fan of tampons really either.

No... You usually don't feel them at all. Sometimes I feel the stem that you use to pull it out. What is it you don't like about tampons?

I'm not sure really, I have tried them a few times but didn't like them at all. And besides, anything that carries a health warning I'd rather not have!

Interesting to hear your opinions, I have certainly received mixed reviews.

Still, from what I have heard, the benefits seem to outweigh the bad points no end.

I have ordered a Femmecup, which is reusable. I have heard nothing but good reviews about this brand so look forward to trying it.

Do any other cup users on here use Femmecup?

Thanks’ for your comments : )

Hi! I have a Mooncup UK, and let me tell you, it's the best thing I've ever bought for myself.

I was never a big fan of tampons, due to the TSS warning and the fact that they are just really unhygienic in my view (come on, you have a string hanging off your vag which gets soaked in wee every time you go to the loo) and always made me paranoid that I'd leave it in for too long.
So I used pads for many years, which after a couple of days, would give me a rash between my legs.

As with most things, it's all about learning how to make it work, after all, we didn't get the hang of tampons at the first attempt, so dont get discouraged if you dont get the cup working from the word go. I found this site, which is a mine of information on everything related to menstrual cups: http://www.menstrualcups.org/

I am sooo chuffed about menstrual cups that I have recently got a small meluna for the last days of my period, when the flow is lighter and also a fleurcup as a back up to my lovely mooncup, they are just too lovely!

Anyway, check out that site and learn more about cups, they're awesome!

Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome, these things ROCK! I got a DivaCup a couple of years back and still have it- a one-time price of $60 or so lasts you for 2 or 3 dozen periods. I took mine backpacking for 5 months in Latin America and god can I just tell you how amazing it is to be able to go about your day with these pros:

    1) you empty it 2 or 3 times a day, which for me meant taking those long, 10-hour bus rides and not once having to worry about if I left it in too long, or if I need to change my pad

    2) tiny to carry around, much less obnoxious than a pile of tampons or a box of pads

    3) it takes a couple of tries sometimes to get it in properly, but you get used to it pretty fast. Normally when I put in it the first time, I put a sheet of toilet paper in my underwear for the first half hour and then check it. If there's any leaking, re-adjust and check it again. If it's not leaking, you know you are 100% leak-free until you take it out to empty it. Literally. I love knowing my underwear is completely safe! You know the Tampax commercials where the women are apparently on the rag and doing yoga in public in white pants? I would feel 100% confident doing yoga in public in white pants with the Divacup in!

    4) again, once you get used to it, you don't even notice it. It's like having a period that you only have to think about for 2 minutes two or three times a day. The rest of the time it's totally forgotten, unless you have PMS it won't even cross your mind except to change it!

    5) great for camping and travel. As long as you have somewhere to empty it, you can use tap or bottled water to rinse it. I was in the rainforest for a few days in Bolivia at a camp with no real access to clean water, and (while I don't recommend doing it regularly, only in emergency situations) it was actually fine just to clean it well with a cloth to avoid risking contaminated water.

    6) SOOOOOO much better for the environment than going through a pile of overpackaging and bleached, scented plastic every month!

Honestly, get one. If you have any tiny inkling to try it (or even if you don't), do it!! These are a true blessing for women everywhere <3
