KAY so I'm getting a little fed up with my Dr B. bar soap making my dreads go all weird and rubbery after washing.. Could be the hard water.. Who else gets this? Does the Dr B. liquid shampoop do this? The scummy rubberyness? Does BiCarb in hard water areas make your dreads go scummy and rubbery like shoap? The only shampoop that works for me the best is the DHHQ one... But I don't want to buy that anymore.. So I knoooowww poeople have asked this question before but what do you guys wash your dreads with? How often do you have to wassh them a week with that shampoop? Do they feel soft or rubbery after? I quite like alberto (?) tea tree and mint shampoo, but that means I have to wash my dreads like.. every 4 or 5 days rather than a week, and I like my week xD Does anyone use supermarket bought shampooooop?
i went from dhhq to dr.b to just baking soda. the baking soda doesn't give em that rubbery feel and it got a old build up out of my hair..... also i don't seem to have as much head cheese now. i try to only wash evry other week at the most
I've decided that hard water is to blame for weird feelings caused by Dr. Bronners. In my house here it feels gross(with hard water) but at my moms place it is fine. baking soda works fine, hard water or not.
Ive had a bit of trouble getting baking soda out in the past, you think you've rinsed it all only to find baking soda slime in your roots. I still use it, just have to take extra care to get it all out.
I've stopped with Dr B's. I'm now alternating my washing with Lush Karma and Tesco £1 coconut shampoo and conditioner, I'm using this conditioner bi monthly. I've not had to wash more than what I usually do. I'm doing a personal experiment to see if residue creating shampoos really are as bad for dreads as the grapevine says they are. I still plan on keeping with the ACV rinses though
Aahh see that is what confuses me about bicarb, people say its awesome then others say it gets slimey :S I guess its how much you use and how thoroughly you wash it out? That tesclols £1 stuff sounds tasty.. Love coconut.. Hmmmmm I may have to experiment with bicarb and proper shampoop ^^ Hdh, when you use the tesco stuff do you lather it in your hands or do you dilute it in a booottle? There is a Lush in High Wycombe now so I might have to go have a nosey..
Whenever I do that with normal shampoop it just stays in one spot and the lather won't migrate >< I end up using like 3 times as much as I need just trying to get it everywhere 0o
I used the Knottyboy liquid shampoo for the first few months... worked well but wayyyyy over-priced. for the past 3 months or so, I've been using DHHQ liquid shampoo. Haven't had any residue, hair feels clean and I kinda like the lack of a scent. (The peppermint oil of the Kboy stuff would burn my eyes sometimes, felt good on my scalp though.) The DHHQ shampoo is pretty cheap. A full bottle will last me about 6 months. I wash my hair about every 2nd or 3rd day, I've yet to have any problems with residue or dandruff or anything. I did use baking soda for a little while and it never felt like it got my hair clean... always felt like I still had a ton of oil in my dreads after I washed. ACV worked better than the baking soda, but still not all that great. I've never tried Dr. Bronners, but don't really plan to, since its pretty much nothing but an industrial strength soap and not really meant for hair, nor is it residue free.
I hate hate hate Dr. Bronners... it makes me hair feel super soft and conditioned and my dreads definitely started slipping out after using it. I like Knotty Boy, but I always dilute it so that it lasts longer and isn't quite so strong. But I always have a nice clean feeling from it, unlike Dr. B
Really? How weird! I always lather and rinse 3 times. So I use a shit ton anyway. I wish there was a shampoo that smelled of tea leaves but really strong tea. That would be fit to smell like tea. I'm gonna do a Yorkshire Tea rinse one day just to see what happens.
I can't make um. Too much dog hair. LMAO Some dread company called super hippie asked me to be their supplier and make soap bars for them [I've never made soap in my life]. I can imagine the horror when you see theres a few black hairs in your soap. Any soap makers want to make me a tea soap? Not tea tree or green tea just straight up tea that you put milk and sugar in?
Haha xD That would be weird Hairy shoap? No tankyou Might have a go if i can find the stuff.. When ever I think of shoap making I just think of fight club xD
I find it strange to put milk in your tea. Always make it leave a weird taste/feel in my mouth. You should try Etsy for a tea soap.
i used Dr.B for like 6 months while my dreads were coming together and i feel like it helped a lot... now i only use water every 3 days or so... and i do a deep clean every few months.
One day. I will make you tea with milk in and you will be all "omgzzzz that was the best cup of tea ever." I've been royally put off Etsy after a dealing with a really rude seller. I hate tit for tat feedback when I pay there and then. They went off on one at me and filed a refund claim against me [?!] luckily paypal went in my favour and I got a refund. Should have taken note of their other 6 negs. I really used to like Etsy as well.
Glad you got your monies back hdh Try Misi.co.uk, its like etsy but for the UK http://www.misi.co.uk/
