I would never shoot up. Something about getting an abcess and losing your arm seems somewhat unappealing. I don't care how safe you are, a 0.000000000001% chance of losing your arm is too much of a risk
It depends what you shoot up and if you do it right. There is no chance of losing your arm getting a penicillin shot. You are not gonna get an abcess shooting dope once, if you do it multiple times many times it becomes possible. But if you shoot up right, even if youre an addict, most likely you will never lose an arm. If you miss the vein and inject non sterile substances into yourself thats how you get problems. But injecting dope is stupid anyway, as by the time it gets to you its been in at least one persons asshole. happy shootin

Unused needles tend to slide right in- and the activity is very positively reinforcing. People tend to get over any needle issues fairly quickly.
When the OP said numbing agent, i don't think he meant an opiate guys, he meant an anesthetic. live Novocaine. And OP, did you mean you passed out because of the pain, or because the effects of whichever drug you were given?
I watched my cousin in law almost loose his arm due to infection from shooting crack, that's why I will never shoot anything. His arm was all green and nasty, and some of his skin around the injection point, the one that got infected, turned to liquid jelly and was falling off. I definately couldn't do it to my self. I am ok with going to the hospital and getting a shot if needed though, that doesn't bother me at all.

Its the lidocaine HCl, shit stings bad. It affects ion channels and if it gets into sstemic circulation it can cause you to faint. I don't know why they don't use topicals like at the dentist maybe its too slipery or something.
