Newbie to Salvia - Help Please!!

    For a while now i have been very intrigued to experience the unique, literally out-of-this-world effects of Salvia, as described by many. So a week ago, I finally bought a gram of 10x a while ago, and went through the whole gram (not all at one time) and was extremely dissapointed to find that absolutely no effects came out of any of my attempts. The brand i used was Jungle Venom, if it helps. I used a 2-inch long metal pipe, loaded the pipe with approximately 2, or maybe 3 match head sized portions, and took on average 2 hits.

    On a side note, i have read up tons on this, went through forums and guides and such. I just need things clarified, and explained in more detail. I have several questions that have been bothering me since:

    1.It seems i may have a strong tolerance. So, If you are a first time user, exactly how much extract do you need to "break-through"? For example, how many match-head sized potions is recommended? Or should an entire gram be used?
    2.Is holding the smoke in for 30 seconds absolutely CRUCIAL in obtaining the effects?
    3. Does using a bong as opposed to a regular pipe make a signifcant difference?
    4. I heard that the psychedelic chemical in Salvia burns at higher temperatures. Would a jet lighter as opposed to a regular bic lighter make a significant difference? If so, should i attempt smoking out of my 2 inch pipe, or would the smoke be way too hot? If not, would using a corn cob pipe work better, as the stem of the pipe is more extended?

    Lastly, I've also heard that you become more sensitive to the substance over time. I've ordered an ounce of Salvia Foliage, and was wondering if using large amounts of this would be the best way to increase my sensitivity, and THEN perhaps take on extracts? In other words, if I keep using large amounts of leaf until i achieve substantial effects, and THEN switch to extracts for a good trip, would that be a better, money saving alternative? Or am i just better off buying a couple grams of extract, and then use leaf after my tolerance breaks? I'm kind of tight on my budget right now, so i thought using leaf to initiate myself would work better than shelling out tons of cash on extracts over and over.

    I apologize for asking so many dumb questions, but this is my first time ever using this substance, so naturally a thousand questions pop into my head. I would really, really appreciate your generous imput on this. Thanks!!

    Hi I see your post has been open a few days with no reply...

    I have mixed feelings on extracts and feel they contribute to the many bad experiences people have. That being said, useing them smartly does make your stash last.

    If I can suggest, get yourself some plain leaf and a bit of 10x extract.

    I assume your little pipe is of the shotgun variety, ie, it looks like a tiny traditional pipe.
    jsut load it up with a little plain leaf and sprinkle a tiny bit of 10x over, like that amount of salt you'd throw on one french fry.

    When you take your hits, keep the flame on it the whole time, it needs to get pretty hot to release the active compounds. Get as much as you can into your lungs, and blow out until you finished your little bowl of half roach sized loads.
    If you have a friend, it helps to take turns to let the stuff course around in your veins as you slowly build up your levels, decrease your tollerance... by the fourth time or so it is your turn to smoke, be prepared to loose yourself. After this youcan use plain leaf like a pro.

    I tend to use 5x or 15x in a bong, keeping the flame on the bowl the whole time while taking as big a hoot as I can and holding. I then do it again if I can;)

    As for foliage, i'd look into sublingual ingestion (through the gums, as a "quid"), or by making a tincture.

    Try a different brand of Salvia. if you are shopping online 10x standardized extract would be the optimal thing to try.

    -Yes a torch lighter or at least keeping the flame to the substance does help as it takes a high temperature to release salvinorin a.
    - A bubbler or bong would be preferred over a pipe, because the smoke is cooled down and you could probably take in more smoke.
    -I don't know why the holding it in thing works but i hold the smoke in for at least 15 seconds and seems to be pretty effective every time. Anything more than 2 hits is not necessary. Salvia, like some other substances, has a critical period where after inhaling an amount after a minute or so from the first toke will not potentiate the effects.
    -Eventhough the effects should be very apparent no matter what time of day or where you take it, doing it during the night or in the dark seems to be the best for me.

    I have heard of upwards to 10% of people who try salvia are not effected by salvia. I think this may be a little skewed by these flawed techniques though. If you follow those steps you should be fine.
