If this was the reason you stopped drinking sports drinks you should probably read up on the more serious (although tooth decay would suck) dangers of sugar.

Its not just about the teeth. High fructose corn syrup and fructose are not healthy for many reasons. I'm skeptical about artificial colors and flavors also.

depending on the HFCS, it may have a lower amount of actual fructose or slightly higher amount of fructose than honey (as well as pretty similar to sucrose and invert sugar)...and there is nothing special about HFCS that makes it uniquely problematic

oh snap! then what you're saying is that basicly anything with sugar in it is bad for you? that eating the magic of honey is the same as drinking that tooth rotting substance known as Gatorade?

Well, HFCS is highly processed, and while it comes from a natural source it in itself is not natural. Thats enough to for me to severely limit my exposure. Also, mercury has been found in a significant portion of HFCS used.

The fructose found in processed foods is a refined sugar and not the same fructose that is found in honey. "Commerical fructose" has been shown to contain arsenic, heavy metals, lead, and chloride in it also.

It's reasonable to suspect the most adulterated and processed substances to be the worst. But really, any kind of simple sugar without fiber or a sufficient amount of enzymes, antioxidants or nutrients going along with it is terrible. Natural cane sugar or honey are still very unhealthy if consumed in the amounts present in pop or sports drinks.

True. Its alarming how much sugar is added to a substantial amount of processed foods. Quite a bit of products have HFCS and other sugars added to it. Unfortunately most people aren't aware of this and are unwittingly eating more than they should.
