no but you have to be an alcoholic apparently i scored in the top something percent and qualified for the nuclear power program but that would involve 15 months of school and probably years stationed on a nuclear submarine. i doubt im going to join, just checking my options.
alcohol and being out in the middle of the ocean on a giant floating vessel I wouldnt think mix well.

Ahoy ... it also has something to do with what you are doing ... I was in Operations Department, which is the name the functions of the Marines took on when the Marines were disbanded. So, technically speaking, I was Brown Navy, not Blue Navy ... I was mostly based in the naval harbour at Simons Town, Cape Town or the Armaments Depot on the mountain. I was trained on every class of vessels, including subs, but never served on them. Those who were guaranteed of serving long periods on vessels were gunners, Coms, EWs, mechanics, chefs, medical … etc, low ranking peeps with no specialisation ended up serving only as ‘hands’ on vessels that were in the docks.

I don't know what MOS means. He has been in the Navy Reserves for quite a while now so maybe that has something to do with it. He is a Nurse. He has been deployed to Kuwaite and Germany, though and had a bit of time off to travel around those places.
