Seems to be a lot of hate and anger nationwide with all the right wingers doing doing their damnest to stir it up. I don't know what the problem was for the folks who showed up here with their hate but at least here the solution is to just exclude them. It's not so easy in the real world though and that bothers me. Life is just too damn short to be consumed with hate and anger, it takes up too much energy.

So what do you do when you come across that kind of blind rage in the real world? Sometimes it's pretty hard to just ignore and most people like that are looking for a fight anyway. Anybody got any words of wisdom on how to deflect such pathology? It would be nice to think you could reason with people but experience tells me it ain't always so.

A lot of times I have trouble getting on the forums so if that kind of stuff comes up report it ASAP cause it may be hours before I ever spot it. Be kind to each other folks.

i think the anger mostly comes from religion (atleast over thinking of it to the point where you miss some main goals of it) and just social issues that swirl around, a few people grow a few seedlings of hate and the roots grow deep, like a weed you can cut it but inless you pull out th roots itll stay.

people are close minded, they dont see it for what it is, love, they simply see something that has been highlighted as odd, and that blinds them to the simple idea that 2 people who love each other should not be wrapped by rules.

My own wisdom is limited (when it comes to dealing with angry right wingers), so I tend to use humor to try and deflect the situation. However, I am no Oscar Wilde or Quentin Crisp. So I often feel like I've somehow failed to keep the peace. It's no easy task -- and sometimes humor is not enough.

So I guess a little "tough love" is sometimes in order? In other words, if you're gonna hate on somebody (or a group), then expect to be dealt with accordingly. Words can hurt as hard as a fist. Even online. So I guess it all comes down to respecting one another -- even if we disagree? I mean, the bottom line is to choose your words carefully, and consider other folks feelings.

That's what Hip Forums is all about (as best I can tell). Never judge somebody for being different. But try to understand. Even if it's only a little bit -- that's a step in the right direction. :)

I live in a large metropolitan area, Miami Beach, which insulates me somewhat from the backwater attitude that so many minorities have to endure in other parts of the U.S. I also am not very flamboyant, so you'd have to know my cocksucking inclinations personally to even suspect that I am different from the majority.

I (or my screen identity) got personally attacked here of all places a couple days ago for being different by someone else's standards. It was quickly dealt with but even tho Shale is not my true name it is still my identity here and as QP said, words can be upsetting even online.

I don't expect any Web forum to be a sanctuary from the haters of the world but this place I think of as a fortress where we free spirits can hang out and be ourselves, and if we are attacked, can circle the wagons and deal with it.

But, as Matthew Shepard illustrates, the real world is still a dangerous place where hate and anger is deadly to those who are percieved as different. IDK what can be done about that, except educate more ppl to isolate the haters.

Sorry Rambln Mike but I disagree. Hate is pretty much worthless. It takes up way too much energy and effort to mantain hate for other people. Hate denies a person the ability to think and reason. Hate is ridgid and locked. As a gay man with a realatively functional mind I prefer to assess people as indiviuals not as classes of peple I must hate. When I encounter a hater, if they are worth the effort I may try to reason with them. If they want to hang on to their hate I move on.

Now if they want to get active with their hate thats a different matter. I grew up country and in a redneck area so I do understand self defense. If someone ever seriously threatens the safty of my family they'll be stopped. Not out of hate but rather in the same way I kill cottonmouths and copperheads when they get too close to the house.

RMike you need to avoid calling people stupid even if you do stick that lol shit in back of it. I'm telling you this as a super moderator here on HIP forums . We just went through a round of name calling which prompted me to post this thread on hate and anger. Find a better way to disagree.

your a mod? i never knew that :p

as for on topic, there will always be those that are hateful, but all we can do really is spread love to those who'll accept it right? inform the uninformed and love the unloved or unlovable and warm their icy hearts ^.^ not much harm(if any) can come from love, but hate breeds more hate and just causes problems.

Just sittin' here digesting the brief heartburn known as RamblinMike

RamblinMike came on strong and opinionated to our forums and a bit insulting, but we endured him for a couple of days, even trying to communicate with him.

But eventually you have to call him on some of his shit, as we did on another forum.
I explained to him how AIDS is best talked about, that Silence = Death. And his response was thus:

I again brought up the fact that you can't make the whole world dance around a legitimate topic just because you find it upsetting.

But Avatar MN was the first to catch the insincerity of his posts. (Other than he was taunting another poster about being gay)

I guess he then got bolder knowing that we were onto him - why else would he advocate hate & anger on a thread trying to assess a recent angry hate poster in our gay forum? To the point of challenging a mod who gave him warning to back off.

Remember this is the poster who was supposedly so thin skin that he didn't want others to discuss AIDS.

So, our Troll is now banned, but I always wonder what motivates such ppl.

What was in it for him or any other disruptive person to come in and yell shit in a serious discussion. Someone suggested in a PM to me that he was likely not 29 but 14. (Sorry, don't want to malign our teen posters, who often surprise me with the maturity of their insights) That could be the case, just some immature jerk (whether 14 or 29) that wants to know how long he can string along ppl who actually do like to respond to their inquiries with sincerity.

Oh, well. Let's hope he eventually grows up.

At least this was quick and painless. I wonder if the dude even bothered to read the title of your thread? The mind boggles.
