Is re-backcombing or multiple backcombing ever necessary/recommended?

Alright so let me explain the situation - most importantly i've had dreads for 5 months and had them backcombed
My three friends are hairdressers, one of them which had locks herself
They each say I should backcomb my hair further or completely redo it
I'm skeptical of their advice, I really don't think it's necessary
I can see where they are coming from, my roots look really shitty and my dreads look like they're falling apart, so yeah i can kinda understand
But the thing is.. I EXPECTED this to happen to my dreads when i first got them backcombed
I can post pictures if you guys need
Oh also, if you think its important to re-do them please explain why. I'm open to the idea if it's beneficial to me. If it will only restart the process from square 1 instead of 5 months of progress then i'm not interested.

Na dont do it man when you backcomb you tangle and knot the hair together in sections. If you re-backcomb your going to fuck up the knots and tangles you already have hindering the dread process. Its already been 5 months im sure there knotting in some areas just give it more time and they will knot especially if theyre holding their sections. If you want them to look more representable then try wraps or minor crocheting but no need to rebackcomb and mess up the 5 month progression

I would not recommend it. Unless you have longer hair and the ends have completely lost their knots, but even then, I still think it's better to not do it. My dreads are 10 months and about a month ago I T&R'd the ends of some and I regret it now, cuz the ones I didn't are getting sucked up and getting stumpy etc.

I guess it all boils down to how you want your dreads to look and the patience you have. Personal choice.

once your dreads start to mature you will realize how counter-intuitive backcombing again would be. you are right, if you backcomb again they will have to fall apart again and it wouldnt help at all

No, it will just make it take longer.

TnR'ing once a week would be a better idea... Don't completely do it, just give 'em a touch up.
