Long story short, was in a car found with weed, baggies, and scale. Do I get charged?

Today, I was just chillin with 2 other buddies. We were just parked in a "no-parking zone" waiting on a friend we were supposed to meet up with. A cop comes to ask us about the parking and up on the window he could smell weed. The driver smokes all the time in his car, but we weren't smoking, yet the cop still had suspicions about smelling the weed (his car was really reaking of weed), and so he was about to search the car, and he asks if there's anything not supposed to be here. The driver tells him that he just has a little weed and a pipe under the seat. Me and the other kid didn't have anything on us, and the driver claimed all that was found in the car: just 1-1.5 grams (which is just a little bit) of weed, a ton of empty baggies, a scale, all inside one box, and a pipe that was found in the compartment. So the driver got a ticket for possession, paraphernalia, and to **** him even more, for parking in a no-parking zone. Now, me and the other kid had absolutely nothing on us, so we didnt get any tickets. The driver claimed that the scale was for his own personal use. If the cops ever find that the driver was a "distributor," - because of the scale and baggies - would me and the other kid get in trouble too? Or am I just being paranoid? BTW I live in Portland, Oregon.

Neither me nor the other kid got out with a ticket. It was only the driver who got a ticket, and no one was arrested. Do you think they will just file it and leave it be or look into it? Would I get a "guilty by association?" What about "summons," do you get one only at the scene of the crime or do you get one delivered to you? If I exit the scene with no ticket, no nothing, and the police didn't say anything about me committing a crime, should I be worried? Because I didn't do anything.

dont just chill somewhere in a car like that with that particular combination of shit. no parking means a cop is probably gonna check it too when he checks the street and they do that at regular intervals and if they see a car just chillin there its gonna look suspicious.

I'd rather walk down the street smokin a joint, than smoke a joint in a parked car in public. Cars are the main reason people get fucked for drug possession.

It would be far safer not using a car at all when you pick up shit. How many times have you been just walking and been searched? Never for me. Now in a car, i've been searched at least a dozen times, and arrested a few also.

I don't know, there are websites online where you can ask a lawyer questions like the one your have. The websites free a everything, it's probably easy to find.

 

if they didnt even arrest the driver then not only do you have nothing to worry about, but niether does he!! Oregon must be a cool state, because in CT they treat us potheads as criminals. The assholes around here would have had everybody in the car searched and arrested!

 

Around where i'm at you run into asshole cops like that, but usually most of them are lookin for drugs other than weed. I've had them just pour it out one time, there were five people in the car, and two of us had weed, and somebody had a scale. They just took the scale and poured out the weed.

Now if there had been dope on us though, everybody would have gone that night...the cops don't play around with shit like meth, even just one little shard. You never know what kinda cop your gonna be dealing with either, some of em are scary.

 

The cops have two years to charge you. Because there were scales and empty bags, you could be charged with possession with intent to distribute. It is not likely they will do anything unless you are caught again.

Here's how it works: Suppose you are buying weed, and there is a bust. The police will then tell you, "You are f%*#@ed unless you tell everything!" - meaning that unless you testify against the dealer, they will charge you for dealing in BOTH busts. Keep in mind that this could mean years in jail. Multiple counts - maybe 5~10 years. Of course, they might not have a case against you, but would you take a chance?

The past can't be changed, but you need to be VERY careful in the future. You have become a "known drug-user." It doesn't matter that you were not charged.

You live in Oregon? That's a weed tolerant state (to an extent) They can't do hardly anything to you unless you were in possession, which you say you weren't. I'd be careful, but I'd say it'll be okay bro

 

lol but how they going to come after you if they didn't even write you a ticket they have 0 proof of you ever being there at this point so your safe and yeah tell your body to keep the scale at home and if he got a ticket then he should be definitely more careful in the future as it might come back and bite him and for future you shouldn't have that much shit with you in the car unless your driving from one place to another then yeah go slow don't go over the limits obey the signs and you will make it home safe

 

He should kill that cop first, just in case
