who here has taken SSRIs? Which one specifically did you take?

i've heard a lot of people talk about "zombiness" with SSRI use, how it turned them into robots and they did not like it at all. was this the experience of anyone here?

i'm asking because several weeks ago i started on 10mg of lexapro (escitalopram), a newer generation SSRI, developed to work more specifically than older ones like prozac and zoloft with less side effects.

the first week i noticed an extreme sleeplessness, a weird pressure feeling in my head, and feeling "wired". for two weeks i had symptoms of HPPD get notably worse (trails, bolder colors, shifting, etc) and some weird things like spontaneous laughing and odd thoughts that concerned me.

since then i've upped to 20mg and this is about my third week on 20, seventh week total. for a week after upping to 20mg daily, i felt really drowsy and slept a lot.

those effects have since dropped and i've noticed a much more desirable effect of more motivation, increased empathy and feelings of humanity... talking to people is much easier, feeling a connection with my family and just allowing myself some time to turn off and enjoy what's going on around me has been increased drastically.

this is the exact opposite of the "zombie" effect i've heard so much about, maybe because this is a newer SSRI and works better? have other people had similar experiences?

i really hate the fact that in can't roll or trip, but at least i can't do DXM so that's encouraging :D

i feel like this is actually a good choice, and i have no problem taking these pills because they're making things easier and better in a way that's really just good for me, for what i need to do, and everyone that i care about.

i already know how i feel so i'm not looking for people to convince me otherwise, but i'm interested to hear the experiences of other people here who have tried SSRIs? you're an interesting bunch of people and i know some have dabbled in medication, i'd love to hear what you have to say on the topic!

    peace :)

sleepiness is normal--if you start doing the 'crab claw" opening and closing your fingers uncontrolably or rocking back and forth while doing the crab claw or doing the shuffle walk--or eating too fast just shoving food in your mouth or talking slow---with a neutral aspect---then youve become a zombi and need to lower your dose or quit-----your friends will be able to tell if you are becoming zombie---good luck some of those side effects are permanent----and if your not hearing voices you dont need the shit---be cool and quit while u can--even the Docs dont know how that shit works--and there playing with your brain---do benzos or weed or tricyclics which have a 50 year track record that new shit is just making u a guinia pig and whoe to you

these aren't anti-psychotics... aren't those things you've mentioned more common with drugs like thorazine, seroqel, risperidone, etc?

though my voice is kinda different now, it's a little bit higher toned and more mellow, interesting!
