First off, Id like to say this movie was amazing, although the meaning behind it is beaten to death it still did not deter me from enjoying it. If you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend it. Anyway, the people of Pandora reminded me of the interconnected infrastructure of the world. The very same one I was reminded of when I smoked DMT. Im sure the movie had nothing to do with DMT in the least but it is still the best representation of how that drug makes one feel and perhaps the very reality of our world that I have ever seen. I know some of you have got to agree with me. The scene that really stood out for me was when all of the people were crowded around the spirit tree and were all mentally intertwined and swinging around in a trance like state praying.
The trailer kind of put me off that movie... i confess it looked retarded. But i am hearing interesting things, may have to check it out.
It's a great movie but remember that it's still a movie. Cliches abound and the meaning of the movie is blatantly obvious. You'll laugh your ass off at the crap dialogue but then you'll be amazed at how well James Cameron can visualize his story.
you'll have a great time but youll probly need a couple smokes breaks if you smoke. It gets a little long at parts.
not just visually though the story is pretty amazing too the movie was quite psychedelic, even if i wasn't tripping
**Spoilers may follow** Very well put. I just got back from it and I would give it a C+ rating. Cameron is not much for tip-toeing around the meaning in his movies; he makes sure everyone knows what he's trying to conceptualize. I'd say if he would have got some better actors in there and gave the script to the Cohen brothers for some touch-ups on the (at many points) horrendous dialogue, this would have been an incredible movie. I am a sucker for aesthetics and all-around "epicness" in movies though, so it got points for that. Plus the message was really deep for what is shaping to be a mainstream blockbuster. And yes, I did get a very psychedelic vibe from the "everything is one" message that was prevalent throughout. And since I haven't done DMT, I can't say that it reminded of that tryptamine, but I did get a very shroomy feel from it. This is a movie worth checking out in theaters, just don't say you weren't warned about corny one-liners!
I like this topic even if I thought the movie was goofy. It's a cool connection. But...I thought Cameron just made a live action version of Fern Gully with marines, or, as South Park so aptly put it, Dances with Smurfs. I really couldn't give a fuck about special effects, so his epic rehash just didn't do it for me.
I enjoyed the movie very much. Kinda wish there was a world like that. Sorry i'm a big fantasy fan big SW fan too.
I want to see it in IMAX 3D while tripping. But I think it's too long to be in the one place for. I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD and I can watch it at home. SPOILERS I thought the ending sucked. It should have finished much earlier and the humans should have won. There are few examples in history where the indigenous people have beaten their colonisers. I don't think that was very realistic. Plus, it would have had more of an impact if it didn't have a happy ending. Does anyone agree?
I agree in a sense although on the other hand it made me happy to see the people get defeated in the end. Awesome movie...best I think ive ever seen at a theatre. It was definitely very psychedelic and indeed did do a decent job of portraying the interconnectivity that exists between a planet and its species
james cameron was a tripper... he used to eat alot of LSD in the 70's. read that in the rolling stone interview. he says he gets most of his concepts from his dreams. but if he has smoked DMT at some point, a heavy psychedelic experience like that doesn't just fall by the wayside, it pretty much informs everything you do thereafter in some respect. by the way i loved avatar.
ever heard of the Avatar Blues? apparently, i've heard this on the news more than once now, teenagers around the country are all getting really suicidal after watching this movie because of how much they long for a world to actually be like that and then they look around at our own 3d world and get disgusted and slapped in the face by "reality". i just find this to be extremely interesting for various different reasons.
i agree with the original poster. the religion of the people spoke to me. it was beautifu and strongly resembled my beliefs (at this point in time). the network seemed like it could be the akashic records. i dont know about dmt alone, but many psychedelics including lsd, fungus (for some) and molly!
like for real....The world i was born in is tottally different from a third world country or even the world my parents are coming from...The middle of nowhere ireland...Like the countryside...Ive been growing alot of respect for them and i feel sad about it....Dimensions are questionable lol I asked about the Dmt Thing awhile ago here...Is that some voodoo shit?
