You still feel like shit after you quit? Or did you quit at all?

I started at 18. I've actually just really decided I want to quit in the past couple weeks. Been taking it slow, sorta - I go my two days off a week without smoking a single cig. The next step is to stop smoking on my breaks at work. That's going to be tough. Though I must admit that it's pretty much weakness that has kept me from quitting thus far. I've heard people talk about the withdrawal they get when they quit - headaches, irritability, etc. My withdrawal symptoms seem to be:

    Feeling happier
    More creativity
    Less anxiety
    Lowered blood pressure
    trouble sleeping
    cravings

Obviously the last two are the only negative ones, and the sleep trouble is rather mild. But for some reason i keep smoking, even though it seems I would have a much easier time quitting than a lot of people.

It's all psychological. What usually happens is I'll decide i want to quit, then anywhere from a few hours to a few days later, something happens (or nothing happens) which causes me to

    1. Get depressed/angry
    2. Be really, really bored and not know what to do with myself.

It's during these times that I say to myself "Ahhhh, fuck it, who gives a shit? I don't care if I die early," or some such thing, and go buy another pack.

I have this theory, though, that if cig manufactures started selling single cigs, or like packs of two or even five, that a lot more people would quit. One of my biggest reasons for smoking is that if I just want to smoke ONE cig I have to go out and buy at least 20 of them. Then I have a pack laying around, its just sitting there, and its gonna go to waste if I don't smoke it, so I do. I'm sure thats why tobacco companies sell cigs in packs of twenty, actually. Easier to keep you addicted that way.

Oh yeah, as for how it has made me feel - pretty much the same as what you said. I feel kinda dull and like my energy is drained and like I don't have much motivation to do anything fun or productive when I'm smoking cigs. When I stop its the opposite within 24 hours of quitting. And yet for some reason, even though stopping smoking makes me feel like I have more energy and actually want to do things, and like I'm just more connected to life in general or something, it is also always accompanied by a desire to smoke those nice feelings away. Its strange.

I'm 18 and I've been smoking since I was 14, I quit once, and I made it two weeks, and now this is try number 2, and ive made it 3 days now...

I hate cigarettes, we start them for dumb reasons, and we keep smokin em for dum reasons...

I don't consider someone free if they smoke cigarettes, I don't consider someone free if they started, I consider them dumb, as I was.

Noticed when I quit for a few days, and I start again, they taste like shit again... it's weird.

Yeah, it makes alot of sense, its fucked up but at least they got good business tactics.

I noticed the first week I just felt like I was sick as fuck with the flu and feeling like an asshole for a few days, but after that I felt way more "slow" just like ahhhh all the time, so I think they add to stress not help it.

Just a habit, I think psychologically we just make it into something worse than it is to quit, cause we just got a habit, I don't want one, but I do feel worse for the firstl ittle while without em, only to feel better again.

You either keep smoking or you don't. The only thing you are wasting is your health. Aren't people smart enough that they can put together in their head that the more toxic things that make it in the body the more shitty you will feel in general? I thought life is about feeling good? Mabey cigarettes are the best feeling in the world? Its understandable then i guess. Why not do heroin then? Another understandable scenerio is if you don't like life anyways, then nothing matters.
It's simple you either like life or you like cigs.

in certain neighborhoods, they sell loose cigarettes for 50 cents or less, depending on the brand.

I smoked my first cigarette when I was 10 or so. Ever since then I smoke on and off. It's weird, I have absolutely no addiction to it whatsoever, but I really like it. I can smoke a pack in a few days then not smoke for 2 years.
All the people in my life are smokers so they treat me like an alien for not being attached. haha.

i smoked for a while... it just got out of control.

there was a point when i was like 16 and was so sure i would "only smoke 1 cigarette a day" right after lunch.

and then i was 18 and i "only gonna smoke a pack a day" it just got ridiculous!

thats like 60$ a week on cigarettes! multiply that by a year and i have enough to buy a car or whatever other drugs i want.

edit:i decided to quit when i was 18, but it took me 2 years and a bunch of attempts before i got it right.... that is

the rule for quitting cigarettes is "you can smoke as many cigarettes you want until you quit, and then once you've quit you can't smoke any more cigarettes, ever." and if you haven't followed that rule then you were just on a "break."

I smoke weed and roll and stuff...Heroin doesn't really interest me...maybe I'll try it some day.
But I just got a hookah yesterday so I'm hardly interested in cigarettes right now . :D

    by the way, mmg, is that you're plant? it's gorgeous [;
