i want to get locks like those on the right : http://www.josephisrael.com/media_files/Pics/Images/Jamaica-Dreads.jpg and my hair looks like that : http://www.orkut.com/AlbumZoom.aspx?uid=13633902113847891281&pid=9 (im the boy) so is that possible ?
Yep. all hair types can do whatever. It's all about maintenance. For super thin dreads you'd have to backcomb, probably. And you have to rip a LOT. (separate your dreads when the roots start growing together.) otherwise they'll marry eachother.
You have to be logged in to see pictures in orkut, just a note. And on the subject, having dreads like the guy on the picture is kinda hard for non-african hair if you ask me, yeah you can have really thin backcombed dreads, but the result wont be visually the same.
you can have thin locks, but not like the guy on the picture. With afro hair you can have 200 or 300 locks, not possible with straight hair, afro hair has a different structure and it will shrink like hell, even if there are just 10 hairs a dreadlock can form, ten straight hairs will probably not lock up, only loops will form. So if you want 100/120 locks, that's possible.
thats the information i wanted to know, ty but i guess, when i make 100-120 locks, then i have to palmroll them 24/7 ?
no you don't have to palmroll all day, but the main thing is to backcomb very tightly, because thin locks will get loopy very fast if they are loose, unless you want loopy locks offcourse.
Have you thought about wrapping them? Would probably save you alot of agro with them all wanting to make friends and seeing as you don't want fat ones there isn't any real downside.. is there?
I wanted to wrap mine but I dont know what to wrap em with. I dont want to go to the store and start buying more shit....
alot of my dreads are thin,,, not as thin as the guy in pic but most of mine are about 1/2 the size around of a pencil... back combed n palm rolling is all i have done ..
yes i had hair lenght to the back of my knees and i have 100 and i backcombed near the roots and now they are shrunk up to the middle of my back and they are lumpy and bumpy with long tips that are just hanging still long and its been 10 months so we will see im not doing anything but ripping after i wash them once a week
awww... I bet Ints will really appreciate your thoughtful and thorough response to the question he posed two and a half years ago.
i have one dreadlock that is rediculously thin! i did have to palm roll it from time to time, like once or twice a week though, not every day. it is now locked up really nicely! it came from loose hairs after the rest of mine came, and at first it took a lot of ripping at the roots to make sure it didnt get eaten. also, while i agree that 99.9 percent of the time the root rubbing thing is unneccessary, in the case of my spaghetti sized dread i had to do the root rubbing thing just to keep it knotty at the base because if i didnt do that it would get eaten by neighbors every day, when i root rubbed it didnt get eaten as much edit: oh wow, old ass post....
