A wonderful thing that has amused me today... It would seem that our future king, Charles, has pissed off our cuurent Education Secretary... How?... Well, there is an industrial tribunal going on at the mo, where a former memeber of Prince Charles' is suing for sexual harrasment or something... Anyways, she has produced a memo written by Charles about the education system in this country... criticising it for being too child centric... blaming it for encouraging people to think above their abilities... and basically implying that people should learn their place... I suppose we should go around bowing and scraping and tugging on our forelocks (fuck that, I'd rather be tugging on my foreskin)... and I suppose we should be grateful to have such a sensitive man for our future king... Anyways, the result of this is becoming an increasingly massive shitstorm... with Charlie boy being criticised for being out of touch... and Tony Blair showing his true colours by refusing to comment (coz he obviously has one eye on his future honours for being a war mongering twat)... Apparantly, Prince Charles has said that if Parliament bans hunting he might as well leave the country and go skiing and never come back... Fancy chipping in for the ticket?... Fly...
Looks like Charlie's trying to do his bit to promote a ban them eh? Obviously his distress is caused by the realisation of how many foxes will be running rampant on his land once this form of pest control is abolished. Or perhaps he's just upset because of all the rural jobs that will be lost. I mean, it couldn't be that it's just because it's a sport, and he enjoys it surely???
don't be too quick to judge him, i hate the monarchistic system as much as the next guy but some of the things he is saying are quite true although obviusely some parts are very fucked up. the fact is his point was that pupils and students are being encouraged to aim high without being shown that to get there you need to work for it, which is very true. through out my time in the education system i have been told i should aim high (which is obviusely a good thing) but this is not where the problem is, it is the actual system, I took my GCSE's without any revision and was high for my Science exam, i came out with all C or better and 2 A* in science! i was a bit better behaved for my AS levels last year but still did very little revision and got 2 A's and 2 B's, i'm at a normal state college and although all my friends are just as lazy and did just as well. these exams themselves are giving the idea that we really don't need to work to get anywhere, and if the plan to change all this into a diploma based on active learning to take away exam stress and the such like the lack of work need will just become even more stupid.
Right... When I took my "A" Level Theatre Studies in 1987, this is what I hate to do... nothing that I did in year 12 counted at all... not a fucking bean... in Year 13 I had a two part practical exam (a 30 minute group devised piece, and two individual monologues) and a written examination... This is what my Theatre Stdies students have to do during their course... Term One is a course term with practical coursework and written coursework on two texts... Term Two is an externally examined scripted practical examination that will last between 30 and 45 minutes... Term Three is a written examination... that is year 12... shall we move onto year 13?... Term One is another coursework term with the students devising and performing a 30 minute piece... Term Two is another externally examined scripted practical exam piece... and Term Three is a second written examination... so that means that they do something ever fucking term that counts towards their final grades in soma shape or form... and you are telling me that they don't have to work as hard as I did?... bollocks... sheer fucking bollocks... My students are put through an education system that is one of the most examined in Europe... year 10 students took modular science exams this very morning... not exactly doing fuck all for two years and then just pulling it out of the hat in the last two months like I did... it really pisses me off when people think that schools somehow encourage laziness... this is a week when it was revealled that more children in this country are on anti-depressants than ever before... why would that be if everything was so fucking rosy?... I will agree with you on one point, and that is the marking of examinations... it is not, as is commonly thought, that exams have got easier... nope... it is the political interfearence in the grading boundries that has created the fucking shithole that we've got ourselves into... due to a simpleminded idea of standards... encouraged by bollocks ideas like fucking league tables (thanks to the tory fuckwits who wanted to encourage people into private education)... Maybe you need to thank your intelligence for enabling you to get through your exams so easily... that happens sometimes... Fly...
