i never told my parents, i just showed them my dad has tattoos so it wasnt a big deal to him, my mom was more upset about it than he was but she is over it now
I got my first two tattoo at age 55 and since then I now have five tats, the last two just recently. My daughter tells me not to get any more.
I applaude you... More people should be where you are with this and realize it can be a big decision.
I had my first tat done on my hipbone when I was 15. The guy did a crappy job and didn't tell how to care for it properly so it scabbed up and most of the color came out with the scabs. My mother was sooooo opposed to me ever getting a tattoo. So when I was 16 (I was so tired of looking at this ugly thing) I sat down with my mom and said "I have something to tell you". She said "OMG YOU'RE PREGNANT!" I said "no but i do have a tattoo". She laughed like it was a joke untill I showed her. Her reaction was "THAT'S a tattoo???" She offered to have me get it removed but I told her I wanted it just covered up with something else. She agreed and took me to get it done. Now I have 4 tat's. All are cover up's and now because of two crappy artists I have to get two of them covered for the 3rd time which will end up with a tattoo I probably won't love or even like that much but will be better than what I had. My mom at this point even likes one of my cover ups. But I AM glad now that I'm 28 that I took her advice and never got one that is visible to the public. Only for the reason that it would have cost me job oppurtunities or I would have had to wear long sleeves all the time to work. I say go get one. Once it's there, what is your dad going to do? It's permanant so he will probably get mad but eventually (he is your dad so he loves you) he will accept it. That's my take.
im 19 and my dad is 60 aswell lol. He said NO to tattoos. So this summer , i went out with my friend Mary and got a rose tattoo on the side of my hip. it is now November, he has yet to find out
my tattoos are a part of me... just like my personality and my dreads. i'm not ashamed of who i am and i'll do what i do, with or without my parents approval. my mom once told me to cover up a tattoo on my arm and i was "dont ever tell me to cover a part of myself again, i feel no shame in showing who i am."
My mom isn't a fan of my tats, but she accepts them. Honestly, she doesn't have much of a choice... I'm 20, and I've been financially independent for the last three years. Though I love her immensely, this isn't something that I allow her to have much impact on.
I didn't tell my parents about my tattoos. they don't really dig tattoos in general, but I got them for a pretty solid reason so they can't give me too much shit. both of the tattoos I have are for my late fiance, so my parents would probably feel like dicks if they harassed me about it. just go for it. tattoos are a form of self-expression. self-expression has nothing to do with your parents.
I didnt tell them, I knew my mom facebook stalked me so I set it as my profile image and I got a million messages and phone calls freaking out:"That better not be real" and shit like that, which I just found amusing haha.
My dad thinks tattoos are disturbing and disgusting. My mom agrees, but she's less passionate about the opinion. When I'm 18 I can get tattoos as long as they're not really visible--they won't stop me, but if they have to see them all the time, they'll stop paying for college and whatnot. It's the same deal with piercings, mostly.
I say just do it. You are a 19 year old. You are in control of your body and it isn't like you are a 12 year old that has to have the permission of your parents in order to do things. If he gets mad about it, so be it. Time will go by and eventually, he will get over it. He may not ever approve of tattoos, but the thing is, it's your body and not his.
Well, my mom has multiple tattoos and views it as an art form, and my dad is alright with tattoos as long as they're tasteful and meaningful, so I don't feel that I'm qualified to be answering your question since I don't have the experience. But I feel that you should just tell him. It's your body, we're not living in a Communist society, and you should feel free to do what you want, when you want.
With my parents I just told them it was my body and Im going to get it anyways and after talking about it and planning them for years they just got used to the idea and ended up buying my second tattoo
