Anyone notice how prices have increased for nutes over the last year? (Economy sucks...yet $$ are higher?...WTF?)

I'm looking at old receipts from Humboldt Org: 1-gal Big Bloom I picked up mid-2008 for $16.50/gallon....now it's "on sale' for $26.

    Botanical.com even higher...yet back in '08 I got Big Bloom 2.5 gal & Tiger Bloom 2.5 gal. for $60 & $79 respectively.

And it's much worse at retail garden shops, or small-time web vendors.

So question: Why is it with MORE growers the prices are HIGHER? When 'something' becomes mass-produced the prices go DOWN...not up!

FF products might be okay...but I've read they're really more "West Coast Hype" than anything, so anyone have suggestions to nutrient brands that are achieving same results...for LESS $$??? Or any other suggestions for that matter?

nice to see you Trader.. :)

Ive bought 2 boxes of hyponex 15-30-15 at biglots for 4.99 ea.. havent switched up on any nutes since then ,, been 2 yrs and I havent even used one box yet..
I have to be careful buying broken soil bags cause they are discounted, as long as they are not outside on pallets, I think Im cool..

    mixing soil is a bitch ... :(

I'd go the "mixed soil" route if I thought the "blend" would last thru the grow. For years I've used top-end grow medium...(big bags from Home Depot, etc.)...with vermiculite, minerals, etc., and then mixed my nutes with my watering.
But if the greedy producers of mj nutes don't "get it", people are going to just find other sources and methods.

If there's one thing I hate in this world...(the TOP of the "seven deadly sins")... it's GREED!

    Hyponex @ $5 a box....I'll give it a try. :)

Trader, don't know where you found BB for $26, Last year I bought a gal. for $30 plus.

I spend the big bucks 'cause I know what I'm gettin'; quality in, quality out, and all that. How do ya know whether the $4 hyponex is outdated or not, could be biglots got it from a going out of business sale, but also just as likely it was outdated or mixed wrong at the factory! Let's see O yer betting a $4 nute against a potentially $3000.00 plant (if ya get a pound of processed bud and hash from one plant) if ya didn't grow it and had to buy it from a dispensery could cost more.

This isn't to say there aren't good nutes cheaper than FF, this is just a heads up to say don't bet yer whole crop on a bargain basement product till you've tried it on a plant or two first:>)

I had a feeling this might happen. Stuff ends up at Biglots for several reasons, for our purposes a product run was mixed wrong recalled and sold to Biglots for pennys on the dollar. 'just wanted to suggest exercizing caution when shopping there!>)

    O! you're doing much better n me!>)

I tend to agree with Naturalhi on this one, obviously it can be done with whatever nutes you decide to use, but i feel the peace of mind you get from spending a few extra dollars is worth it.........plus most small time growers can make a quart of nutes last a couple grows, so they really do pay for themselves....

when i first started up until now i've been a Fox Farm nut, for soil...........now that im switching to passive hydro i'll be giving General Hydroponics 3 part flora series a shot......plus GH's liquid Kool Bloom and maybe abit of Hygrozyme here and there.........Sure i could use Fox Farms "Hydro" lineup but with the results i've seen from GH gear i can't pass it up.............

Appreciate all the input...(nice to see you M420)...but the real question I had was why prices were going UP when the growing is becoming more commonplace? And yes, Natural...I have my receipts for everything from last year. Much cheaper prices.

So here we are...recession, dispensaries popping up everywhere (certain States)...and the nute prices are going UP. What greed is this?

PS...I've never had a "$3000 plant" in my life! Must be doing something wrong...lol...

yeah i guess i did get alittle side tracked lol............but i can't say i've noticed in increase in price for the nutes i use but HAVE noticed a major increase in FF Ocean Forest..........a year and a half or two years ago i was getting the small bags for 9.99.........then it went to 10 then 11 THEN 12 AND NOW IT'S FARKING 13.99 for one of the small bags!!!!! Of course thats at my local place but that's one of the reasons im switching to these passive hydro buckets...........i can get a 4 c.f. bag of perlite and a 3.5 c.f. bag of vermiculite for way cheaper then 6 bags of Ocean Forest.............plus i'll probably end up just using straight perlite plus it's re-usable!!!! Tired of having to spend so much on soil to only throw it away a couple months later............plus getting rid of it is another story.................wow im stoned and rambling......

Naturalhi.... Go to http://humboldtorganics.com BB is 'on sale' for $26, but like I said, last year I got gallons from them for $16.50.

Anywho....bottom line is that prices are going up 'against the grain'. When something becomes more widely used...calculators, cell-phones, etc....the price goes DOWN not up. So I think the vendors are FOS for raising prices.

that's wild................i just went and checked out the sites i order from and their quart size prices are cheap but you jump up to a gallon of BB and the cheapest i could find was like $32 and that's without shipping charges too, one place was wanting like $45!!!!! ridiculous...........looks like the site you posted is probably going to be the cheapest...........who knows, keep shopping you might still find it cheaper.
