Can anyone relate to this? I listen to a whole shitload of metal, a whole fuckload of rap(mainstream too), and a lot of indie/post-rock kind of stuff. Sometimes it just feels like the music's "personalities" and atmosphere I guess you can say just tear at each other. I love going to parties and dancing, but at the same time it feels so weird doing that since I listen to way too much metal. I love rap for the music, but also for the social factor involved, while metal is more of an introspective type of music for me, yet I love going to shows and headbanging and moshing. Then the indie/post rock shit comes into play and makes me feel like I'm turning into an indie kid because of the clothes I buy. I don't know, it kind of sounds stupid typing it all out, but it feels like all of this is gonna catch up to me one day and just make me go insane.
Dude, it's just music. It just means you're not a picky bastard hah..Listen to what you wanna listen to and wear what you wanna wear. I too, listen to a big range of music myself, but I don't feel weird about it.That's just silly. That's more socializing for you. Think of all the different kinds of people you can meet going to all these different shows
sometimes its just good to say things (or type things) out to realize hot they make you feel. From experiences i will tell you that you will go through phases of really loving one kind of music and sooner or later these "phases" will become your identity. *not just music phases but phases in general*
I guarantee you that I don't sir. And I think its more of a "cultural" thing within the music than the music itself. I've been listening to metal and rap for the past few years, mostly all of high school, but lately I've been switching up my swag from band shirts and baggy pants to flannel shirts and skinny jeans. And just the way I act, I definitely feel tension between the two.
Just because I listen to mainstream rap my taste in metal sucks? I listen to metal of all genres, all eras, all popularity levels. Rap is something that just grew on me from hearing it 24/7 and I just grew to like it. I don't listen to the radio because most of the shit they play is shit, but there's a few mainstream artists out there who I like.
Anything from Amon Amarth to Darkthrone to King Diamond to Satanic Warmaster to Decrepit Birth to Wehrmacht to Blood Red Throne to Drudkh. Power metal, melodeath, thrash, black, it doesn't matter. I know the metal I listen to is fucking good, diverse, and expansive and I don't have to prove that to anyone.
If I hadn't been on these forums so long I might be offended to what BSR says....but i've learned after reading his post for a long time and its just how he is.
