    Nails;
    There would be no way I would come west and not stop off to see you unless we all agreed to meet somewhere else. Of course after your desription of heaven I'm not sure I want to be anywhere else. Yes I do drinkl beer (and most anything else. Nevertheless a cool ice tea or lemonade (without sugar) would also hit the spot. I also want to see Darel, Spud, Mouse, Leo Ron, Larry the Hat my brother Mark and the Oregon Country Fair.

    Spacey;
    You're right on when you say that those of us who are family will aways be family despite time or distance or differences. joining us together was a dream that we could choose (and build) a family and society and make it better than what we were told to accept as inevitable. And, in fact, all of us are better for having become members of the family and having tried to achieve that aim. I will call you when I come down to see my son at the U. in Coral Gables. or call me sooner at 718-624-7788

    are the answers to the countless questions I was always pestering you with. I saw you as a guru of sorts, someone I could ask anything because I believed without reservation that you could say something, anything, that would give me guidance. In my conversation I told David how you and Cyril were my mentors. You in the more public, political, spiritual vein. Cyril was more in an intimate and emotional aspect. The two of you, to me, were as one. Yes, 71 qualifies you as an old man, but it denies the youth of your soul.

    When Leo Ron and I were installed into the responsibility of overseeing the income that would cover the major costs of the family we were honored and humbled by your confidence in us to respond to the challenge. And without doubt, he and I rose to that challenge, and we were, and are, proud of how we dealt with it. But we took that chance, first by our dedication to doing what was best for the family, but a close second was the determination of not letting "Stacey" down 'cause he believes in us to deliver for the sake of the family.

    And...as I told David, the theory of our existence was perfect. Trouble is that it would only work if everyone would totally put the demands of the collective over one's own individual demands. Human nature negates that.

    By the way, Steven. I was a property manager in ghetto L.A. in the late '80s and saw first hand the immediate and unforgivable impact the crack had on human beings. It's unbelievable how destructive that shit is in such a lightning quick fashion. Crack can turn a nun into a whore in about 15 minutes. I thank God you came through and are still with us to help those who have come after.

    We have all done things in our past that we would not repete if we had the chance to do a do-over. If I had never experienced all the things I have been through I would not be who I am today. I would have not been able to help as many ppl as I have been blessed to help.

    It's through knowledge that we grow and are able to understand where others are coming from. We all travel our paths to get to our destination. We hit bumps and snags along the way and sometimes we lose our way for a time.

    I think in these moments is when we learn the most. It humbles us and keeps our egos in place. Then we are able to accept and be more forgiving of ourselves and ppl around us. I also think that ppl are more open and responcive with someone 'Who has been there" more then someone who only read about it in a book.

    It's like trying to explain a Spiritual Awakening on LSD to someone who has never experienced LSD. They just dont get it. But if they and you both had a similar experience that in itself creates a bond of sorts and trust is gained.

    You are more able to reach out to someone, let's say a homeless person, if you yourself have been homeless.

    Our generation , of the hippie nation came from two worlds, the one we grew up in and the trail we blazed for ourselves. We have experienced them both and lived in two milliniums. We came out of a vortex. We are unique unto ourselves.

    Steven, I always felt as if you were what held our family together. You and Mama Kitten were like the GodfathernMother to us all. I dont mean that in the mafia sence :) You lead the family meetings, threw the I-Ching. Ppl came to you when they needed help or had a problem with someone. You oversaw all of us and we all held/hold you in esteam. You touched my life, not in a physical way but in an idealistic way. You didnt judge me, you judged the situation and under the circumstances, you saw that I acted out of self preservation and not from malice.

    All these experiences have taught us much. Our strengths and weaknesses are fortified within the knowledge we gain along the way, the more we learn the more strength we have and less weaknesses.

    My kids saved me, although before I had them I did a lot of damage to myself. I had been married and divorced twice before I came to live at Good Earth and I was only 20. I did my stent with crank for several yrs after my LSD yrs in the earily times. I survived with a little help from my friends.

    The ones that made it through the trials n tribulations of The Daze and all that transpired on our journeys are living testimonies of The Happening and there are precious few of us left. The Tale needs to be told.. not about the Famous ppl, the ones in the media, but what made the Haight Tick, The People.. the everyday lifestyles, not just the Be-Ins/Love-Ins, the concerts and the High Holies but how the ppl lived and inner acted. What made The Haight what it was.

    So much to say, so little time/space to say it all.

    Stacey - Happy Birthday! I turn 58 in a few weeks. I'm really thankful for you, Dana, Cyril, et al for starting up the Good Earth. My only regret is that you and Dana don't remember me. Wild Bill gave me the nickname, "Spud." For some reason, it stuck. Happy Holidays, everyone!

    Peace

    Stacey here,

    Well said Nails. The things of which you talk are your, but also the underpinnings of The Good Earth Spirituality

    There are no coencidences. When the Universe forced me out of San Francisco I really had no saleable skills. I continued to attempt to go back to my old habits-- no way. The Universe continued to kick my ass. Leonard Cohen in what I think was his first album asks. "Are my lessons done, Master? Are my lessons done? and in my head the answer always comes back, "No, my son your lessons are never done."

    When I finally realized that that time was over, It was time to move to the next level. I quit "crack cocaine" got serious about school and began to develop a method to share, to teach and be taught, doing the same things I have done all my life. Trying to help make this Good Earth a better place for peoplekind. Ever since I made that choice my life has gotten better everyday in every way

    Stacey here,

    Thank you for those wishes. I have been truly blessed by you and all the brothers and sisters around me.

    It's hard to believe I'm still around. When I look around it is with wonderment full of exhilaration. People who have know me the last few years in Florida tell me I should donate my body to medical science. I laugh and tell them only the good die young.

    We should all live in interesting times, an old Chinese proverb, so I'm told.

    "Wild" Bill the question man. We are all searching for answers, "There must be some way outta here said the Joker to the Thief." I always think of the thief on the right hand side of Christ on the cross. On sacrifice and selflessness, "You can't sacrifice the group for the individual and you can't sacrifice individual for the group-- a thin line to walk.

    Think about it, have you read the Dune series? We are the early ancestors' of the Ben-Gasott (sp?) You need to email me and tell me about all your exploits. One of mty assests in this field very few can walk up to me and tell me I haven't been there-- a blessing and a curse that I thank my Higher Power for.

    Steve;
    I hate to be the one to tell you this (but being an old know it all NY Jew it is my duty) but that is an old Chinese curse. The Confucian/Taoists believed in stability. They feared and distrusted change. This was one of the worst things that one Chinese of the time could say to another.
    However, the fact that we are not old Taoists and that we hopefully profit from the changes we go thru moves me to say thank you.
    It si so good to habe you back aboard.
    Love ya bro

    Hi Shameless, Thanks a ton for your blessings. Shira was an amazing find and getting to know my mom through her friends has been pretty special as well. Hopefully the story of finding one's deceased natural mother isn't too much of a downer for folks to read. The journey has been quite uplifting despite not catching the passenger I was interested in.

    Best wishes to you, Wild Bill, and any others who read the original post and gave it a thought. All the best,

    -n

    Seems like I got a doubble hit on this one, what with all you edjumacated people.

    A curse-- huh-- well, distortion is what you get when you put forth your opinion, and you know what opinions are like, and we all have one. SO, philosophically speaking from an existential, Staceyism point of view, so be it-- Oi va, that I should be so cursed as to live in these interesting times. I do admire Tao and Zen

    Equalibrium is an illusion like all other illusions in the existential world experience that we all share. Eeah proclmation is an asspect of the whole. You can make it simple or you can make it hard. For me it depends on the mood. But what do I know! I'm just that 800 lb. gorilla in the room.

    Hey, dude--

    Stacey here, HAPPY - HAPPY to all us Sags'. You know the old saying-- erverybody loves a Sagitarian including a Sagitarian (smile).

    "Wild Man," have you contacted David Talbot?

    We need a calendar of the rolecall,. events, birthdays, and a scroll, of all who have gone before us. We have been around long enough to have validated our commitment and earned our spurs.

    Talked with Dana, last she heard "Boogie" is in the armed forces. Does anybody know where Cyril's remains are located?

    The holidays are upon us. Our troubles of the past crumble in the presents of the problems that the planet Good Earth is going through today. It will take an act of cosmic consciuosness to get through-- we can do it.
