The bike lanes here are pretty wide, sometimes even enough for a car door to open and still leave room for a bicyclist. Thats pretty crazy though.Cambridge Mass or UK?
the cta in chicago generally tends to ALMOST hit me everytime it pulls up to a bus stop i'm waiting at D:
My friend got his car smashed by a bus as he was pulling out of his driveway the FIRST day he got his license, so he got a free upgrade from an older oldsmobile to a nice ass audi haha. Also it is snowing here, I am jealous of 68 degree temperatures.
I was hit by some **** in a suit speeding in a 2 door Merc. Then the fucker got out, ran back down the road and had the nerve to shout at me about being on the road. I was lying on the ground and felt a bit fucked up so I told him to go fuck himself, managed to stand up and then he was right up in my face shouting. He was, im guessing in his 40's or 50's I made some stupid threat and he grabbed my arm. Then one of my friends jumped him and he went running back to his car with his tail between his legs...fucker was probaby trying to show off in front of his wife or something...Fucking asshole though..I got off with a fractured rib
As bikers, we have many enemies to face/defend ourselves against. In the defense category we OBVIOUSLY have the ****-head bus drivers who feel no regret or compassion as they swerve in and out of bike lanes to pick up the mass of no one standing at the bus stop. Then, if we're at a red light and they're stuck in the bike lane with cars next to them, whichever way you try to go around them seems to be the best route to take to butt fuck the rest of the cars on the road and get to where its going, all the while brutally taking your virgin ass for a ride through "So todays the day I die?" ville. Then there are those who feel like looking in any mirror of their car before pulling out of the parallel space they took 45 minutes to park in would prove more a challenge than a safety precaution. Then when you almost ram into the side of their door they look at you like you're screaming expletives at their children. Then what about those same people who after getting in their parking spot, have so much importance in their life (yet so little time) that they have to throw their door open and run like they're fucking Robbie D in Casino and their cars going to explode. No matter what us bikers do on the road, every "problem" we cause motorists is always our fault. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest...where am I?
this is the reason I never wanna take a day off from smoking weed. what if i get hit by a bus that day!?! it would have been silly of me not to have smoked!
yeah, cambridge ma. i see flower shrines up all the time, it wasn't too long ago that huntington avenue had two shrines up at one time, one on either side of the street. both on Northeastern Property by the northeastern stop. and i regularly take mass. ave into boston from out in the burbs, but its only got a bike lane about a quarter of the way and even then its right in the door zone of SUVs and other large vehicles. not counting the times i have to go around doubleparked cars and delivery trucks. and then add the dumb fucks with "cruiser" bikes are going 10 mph leaving no room to pass while they're listening to their studio size headphones and texting with one hand. a friend of mine who i group ride with offered a job as a bike-messenger early this summer. not two weeks later someone cut him off taking a right turn, he hit the car and flew over it, landed in the street with a broken collar bone and some serious road rash. he has no insurance either, like me. i turned down that job, lol. just sayin. its wicked dangerous.
i ride my bike to work everyday. i got "hit" by a car once, but they barely brushed into me. i got pretty pissed though, especially cuz they didn't even notice and just kept on going. i've almost gotten hit a few times. one time i called 911 and told them about a wreckless driver. i had no plates though, so they couldn't do shit. i tried to flag down a cop, quite frantically i though, but he thought i was waving and waved back. useless.
Probably because he was standing out in the middle of the road like an idiot not looking where he was going Hotwater
I got hit by a cop car when i was riding my bike. I was drunk it was the cop's fault they were just sitting at a stop sign for like five minutes my buddy was riding his bike right in front of me. he goes in front of the cop still sitting at a stopsign. so i go right behind him. I guess he just let off the brake to go and lightweight t-boned me so i fell sideways off my bike. They got out of the car and were like"dude you allright" i was like "yeah, didnt you see my friend ride in front of you just before I did?" Cops were like "no, theres nobody else here". I look around and my friend Is LONG GONE. It turns out he had warrants. cops were like, "dude, you smell like beer. you know its illegal to ride your bike drunk." I was like, "i know but you also drove right into me when i was in the right." cops were like, "you better just get home right now." I was like "SEE YA!!"
I cant find an actual news story, but this place seems like it would be pretty credible. http://www.stephenking.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13692
Yeah biking in traffic is scary for sure. I'm glad you were able to navigate yourself out of the situation and didn't get hurt though. And yeah it got crazy warm today. Such weird weather we're having that's for sure.
