what is the proper way to say it. Who says what is proper, it all depends on where you come from.

    Ora-gun

That is how everyone in Oregon says it, as well as it's neighboring states so that makes it right. Also if you google how to pronounce Oregon every single site will tell you that this is the right pronunciation.

If I was going to visit somewhere I would make sure that I knew how to pronounce it like the locals do.

In my experience, locals usually have the worst grasp of the proper way of saying things. Their way of saying things seems to be more about local tradition and custom than accuracy. As far as I'm concerned, it's pronounced Or-a-gon.

    I agree.
Around here where I live people say things like :

    Ta
    Fur
    Two or Tree

    Translation:

    To
    For
    Two or Three

Should I talk like that to respect the locals lack of proper diction?

    Or-uh-gun
    Tomatoes
    Ory-gone
    Tomatoes
    Or-ih-gin

Go right ahead and say it that way, but if you ever go to Oregon people will hate you immediately.

It's cool if you say Ore-a-gun... but most people say Ore-a-gone and that is totally incorrect in every way no matter who you ask.

Is that a bad thing? Apparently they can't even sound out the name of their own fucking state, or whatever it is...

Thank you... that is just what I was trying to get across. And Zorba... you don't know anything because if you look it up anywhere the correct pronunciation is never ora-gon.... so shut the fuck up.

I think the main problem is that people barely even know that Oregon is a state or where it is or anything about it.

Way too much thought has been given to such a trivial matter.

What if someone had a speech impediment, would all those in Oregon hate them because they couldn't say it right?

The county I live in is Alachua country. some say La-chu-a, some say Ala-chua, some Ala-chu-a, etc. And that is just one county, in a dinky part of Florida.

    People are different, accept it.

If way too much thought has already been put into it... why are you putting your thoughts into it? Hmmmmm? Something to think about.

If you believe that people are different and that's ok, then why do you have a problem with me talking about this subject. It may not matter to you, but it vaguely matters to me... so why don't you accept that I am different?

Also, your speech impediment argument is not what I am talking about. Obviously people in Oregon would be able to tell if someone had a speech impediment as opposed to people just refusing to learn how to properly speak.

What an asshole thing to say.

I don't know the origins of the name Oregon, but as far as Florida goes it was Spanish-La Florida.

Naturally not a lot of people use the Spanish pronunciation as you are probably well aware, which should technically be the right and original name.

    So is Floor-i-da wrong?

    no.

Learn to accept people who may not live up to your standards.
If you represent the caliber of people in Oregon, remind me to never go there.

By the way- I say Ori-gin.

According to you I should probably die in a muddy ditch or something.
