Ive switched my computer to Ubuntu, and im loving it! I cant for the life of me get either my plug in speakers, or the monitor speakers working though! any ideas?
Go to the Ubuntu Forums. It's a huge community/ Chances are there that your problem has already been resolved.
That, my friend, is an understatement. There are thousands of people on the Ubuntu Forums who know their shit and spend a goodly part their time helping others and trying to solve problems, without getting paid. For Ubuntu users, it's a fucking amazing resource.
first off attempt this because there is a common issue around causing many troubles: open the package manager and check for uninstall libsdl1.2debian-alsa. then check for installation libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio. apply the changes. then restart the sound system or reboot and see what happens. or try sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio anyway i am fed up with kubuntu 9.10 AMD64 and his odd malfunctioning. karmic sucks, in my opinion. it has issues, misconfiguration troubles and is unstable going freeze or even falling in kernel panic each 2 days of uptime and my machine is mint new, pounded with ram and under UPS. so i think time has come for me to go for Debian , after almost ten years as a novice of linux i must be ready
Yeah, I have noticed some issues in 9.10 as well, most notably around the issue of sound. Took me awhile to get the sound working, eventually by uninstalling pulseaudio and using alsamixer instead. I preferred 9.04, but now that I've upgraded I'm going to stay with it. Not to mention that MySQL was acting pretty weird in 9.04, and using it is a pretty big part of my job.
today a kernel update dispatched as error correction was issued . going to see if it fixes something around. I'm headed for Debian anyway.
honestly i don't think it's a good idea using ubuntu as a professional platform. it's good for a desktop user but for serious use it's like trowing dice , you may get a good system but i've seen senior programmers and aged linux users giving up without succeeding in the installation process.
Yeah, well I'm not actually hosting anything on the server, it's just for my own use for work (web design). If the server implodes I can just reinstall it; but what I use it for is really not that demanding or critical.
I had issues as well. My headphones wouldn't work at all. Go into the terminal and type in "alsamixer". In mine, I found the sound levels to be completely out of whack. Play around with alsamixer sound levels and you should be able to fix the issue. Cheers.
