I got the idea for this thread from Project Comfortability.
It basically has to do with breaking down the barriers behind these things (masturbation). And being able to talk to your family about it comfortably.

I live alone, but have been caught a few times when mate comes to visit. Have asked if he'd like to join in, but he's either never been interested, or not had the nerve. However, he's always accepted it. Also, when I was living in digs, it was a common thing to walk in on each other while masturbating, and was never a problem, and often used to masturbate together - usually seperately in same room, rather than masturbating each other, but that wasn't unknown either.

Totally comfortable. I don't have a problem with masturbation - quite the contrary, in fact. It's not only a natural process, but a healthy one too, both physically & mentally & I believe it should even be encouraged as a group activity.

((i think that the problem is that through the years, it has been passed down to us in base instinct that its not to be talked about and is "dirty" but essential. i think that idea needs to be kicked out and just make sex a non-issue))

I first got caught by my father, when I was 13, who gave me a beating, but as he was generally abusive that wasn't unusual. Since then I have experienced living in digs where everyone would frequently walk in on everyone else & being caught naked or even masturbating was just part of the general scene & nothing thought about it. Totally comfortable. I don't understand why there should be any of the old world taboos associated with it. After all, this is the 21st century & it's been medically proved that it's physically & mentally beneficial, and that 99% of people do it on a regular basis.

I believe that in this day & age parents should be open with their children about sex & masturbation from the start - even before they come anywhere near puberty. As it is schools (in the UK anyway) are introducing the elementary points of sex education to primary school children so that they grow up with the facts, rather than picking up rumours in the playground. Once they actually reach puberty & begin masturbating then they should have reached the point at which parents respect their privacy enough to knock at the door (and wait for a reply) before entering, but it should never be considered that this is because masturbation should be thought of as a shameful secret, but as being as natural & normal a process as having a bowel movement, which is also something usually done in private.
