Hey folks, had my dreads nearly 3 years now and iv never used a anything on them, just wash them every now and then with a bar of dr bonners. and well, theyre scruffyt, messy, tangled, loose bastard. but still nice n tight.

i was wonderin about getting some of the loosest bits touched out for some reason and came across some 'tightning' things on dreadworx.

i know dreadworx sell all the terrible waxes and all anti-dread things. but wondered if this stuff might acually be beneficial? :

    http://dreadworx.co.uk/dreadlockproducts/dreadlocktighteners/pages/knottyboylocksteadygel.html

    or

    http://dreadworx.co.uk/dreadlockproducts/dreadlocktighteners/pages/dreadempiretighteninggel.html

if these could acually work without being utter bollocs like dread wax id consider giving them a go.

    anyone got any opnions?

Also, anyone know where i could order some pure aloe?

putting unnecessary stuff in them is never a good plan imo, you might be able to get it to tidy some loose hair up a bit but I would imagine you'd need to keep using it to keep relocking in loose hairs that come up.

Hmm, I wouldn't touch any of that shit personally, I'd sooner crochet or try to just stuff the loose hair into the roots if anything, other than using aloe vera. I'd just buy a plant though instead of looking for pure aloe gels. *shrug*

Oh and btw, I thought your locks were quite neat looking anyway?

nah my hairs pretty mental in the sense loose hairs just dont want tae dread. i have tae crotchet the same hairs every morning tae keep it out me damn face for work so i thought if any of that tightning gel would help i may go for it but och i just dinny ken like.

never used aloe so that may be the way tae go i guess.

and tae be honest im nae too bothered iv usually bin fine with my dreads being fucked up, i still love em like. its just when theyre tied back for work i get hundreds of loose bits all over me face

Thy're no good. I tried the lock steady gel myself. Did shit all. If you want your dreads to taste like sugar however, go for it. Don't know about the other one.

Just use a crochet needle. I personally think loose hairs look alright, but if you really want them tidying, go with the crochet needle

Hm, I personally wouldn't use that, but only because I would have to wash more often, as I hate product in my hair.

What I do, and it seems to work for a few days at least, is collect the loose hairs around the problem dread, and then put the back of my hand against my head, palm up. The dread with the loose hairs is between my fingers. Then, with my other hand I just kind of rub the dread in a circular motion, letting it collect the loose hairs.

I think that this is better then root rubbing, as it doesn't stress out the root of the dread, or tighten up beyond where you hold (which isn't any close to your scalp then your hand is). I haven't had any problems, and I've been doing it now and again for a few months. My problems are by my ears and at my nape, but I can't be bothered to do anything other then this to them, as it seems to work for me.

Edot: btw, I love your dreads, and I personally wouldn't really do much to them, as they are awesome!

I believe that the locksteady gel is just aloe plus some other stuff.

I feel where you're at. Mine are 2 1/2 years. The dreads are really mature and loosies just don't want to suck into them. My hairline is pretty much straight hair - nape to forehead.

I can't normally be arsed to do anything but rip but the amount of loose hair I have going on, I'm starting to do kind of a twist n' rip with my strands to get some proto-knots going. Almost sista' lock size.

The results are mixed. If the protodread lasts through a washing, then it will lock up. Half the time they'll fall out - that hairline hair is so freakn' thin.

In my opinion that shit is just like wax. I dig a little bit of loose hair. Bit of character really

Ta fer the replies lads & lassies, aye if that stuff is like wax then it can go doon the pan. crotchet needles do feckaw wi my hair, i tend tae just do a bit o clockwise rubbing.

but aye the loosies just never want tae knot up, but ach well. i may gi that technique a go but im nae overly fussed, just irritated at work by loosies brushin against ma face am nae used tae it. prefer heavy dreads bangin aboot aye

Right am awa tae work, tarrah
