A lot of those old performances are not much more than the artists standing there and miming. There are the famous performances like The Mamas & The Papas and Roy Orbison but the best ones are the ones in which you can feel the energy. I'd say CCR's "Down on the Corner", The Doors' "Light My Fire", Elvis' "Hound Dog" and don't think I'm being biased when I say The Beatles! Their first performance was polished yet energetic and set the stage for their American takedown.
Might well be, but I used to hate that guy......he looked too much like Richard Nixon, hehehehheheheheheheheheheheh
every band on that show did better performances elsewhere many times over....the rules for rock bands on that show ruined ALL the performances...they are only sentimental....thats it
The Beatles RULED on Ed Sullivan. It was a big event in our house and in homes across the continent when the Beatles played.
One of the first things I remember clearly from the past is watching the Beatles on this show (the other thing was President Kennedy getting shot - I was 2 1/2 and remember my older brother running out of the house announcing the event). To this day they are my favourite band. Thank you, Ed Sullivan, for introducing us to a great gig.
