I have had my ears pierced for over 20 years. They are now at a 10g SSS CBR. I have 4 total (3 left and 1 right). Within the last year or so, the wholes have been producing some pretty smelly white stuff. Not every whole and not all the time. It is like an infection, but it there is no ryhme or reason to it. Also, I have 5 other piercings (8g) and none of the other piercings do this...
Any ideas as to what it may be and what I can do about it?

Its just a build up of gunk that the body gives off in areas like that - much like intimate areas. Its nothing to worry about but just keep clean. Some people it happens to more than others, especially when its hot.

    All the best

It is funny (strange) since it did not begin until I started using bigger rings. 316L stainless only, too. Is there anything other than keeping them clean that I can do? I know I need to talk to my doctor about it. Is it an infection or something? There should be something I could do to at least curtail it???

all gauges do that. unless you use wooden plugs. just clean em with soap everytime you shower. it's no big deal :)

But it smells. I take good clean care of them. My ears just give off this awful smell though. None of my other piercings do. I really would like to figure out something. My wife loves chewing on them, but not lately cause of this problem. :-(

If you've stretched your holes than it's perfectly normal. It should go away once they're healed and happy. Just make sure you're cleaning them with a simple sea salt & water solution [and not a necessity at such a small size but moisturize them at least once a day. It will help. I use jojoba oil on my ears :) ]

My ears have been guaged for 7 years now. I don't think that could be the case.
I thank everyone for the ideas though. Just don't think one has hit on it. I really need to talk to my doctor too..

my lobes have done the same thing since i stretched them 8 years ago... the only way to stop it is to use wood, bone or amber plugs, as they will breathe

basically it's sweat and dead skin accumulating - the sweat and any residual bacteria in it are causing the smell, the gunk itself is the dead skin

unless the skin is broken, red, swollen or itchy you really have nothing to stress about

its seriously completely normal and gets worse as you stretch larger. more surface area = more ear cheese. the smell is actually an indication that they are well healed. just wash them with water (soap optional) every time you take a shower, problem solved.

The bigger the jewelry, the worse the funk. I use something that moves a lot, white acrylic tapers without o-rings. They fall out on occasion, I gotta make sure I keep track of 'em, but they don't accumulate anywhere NEAR as much funk as stationary jewelry.

Smelly white stuff is completely normal. Hot, red, hard, throbbing earlobes are a sign of infection.

Just soap 'em up when you bathe. Just like washing yr nuts, man. Just like washing yr nuts.

ill second that. air circulation that you get with heavy jewelry for example seems to almost eliminate the stuff.
