What would be the government of choice outlined by the Bible? What political system would be ideal if everything was followed collectively as described in the Bible?
The first christians lived in communes so under ideal conditions I don't think government or politics would even be necessary. Of course Paul talks about church organization which can be like a government. I'm interested to see what others have to say.
The Kingdom of God as revealed in the Bible is one based on the freedom of choice so it would be a democratic form of gov't.
I beileive that it would be socialism, in that all possessions are shared and everyone is treated equaly. Unforchuntly, history shows us that socialism is a nice thought, but no way to run a country. I believe that while it is a good idea, mans selfishness causes it to always be carried out inncorectly. if the entire world was filled with true, honest Christians, I believe socialism would work.
Democracy is not freedom of choice it's majority rules. That means 51% can tell the other 49% what the law is. Freedom can Christians really understand it? If you really believe in freedom you won't be trying to rule another person. Let God rule not people. Freedom means I get to choose what I eat, drink, put into my body, think, and how I live. Freedom means you mind your own business and I mind mine. Laws that are based on how I live my life in privacy are not based on freedom. Democracy destroys freedom. I am a christian but, I have not seen a government that actually protects the individual's freedoms in my life time. It is not up to a government that truly protects freedom to make laws that govern my private life. As long as I am not hurting another individual the government ought to stay out of my business.
People will be ruled from within not without. How did Jesus rule as King of the Jews? In complete weakness from the outside and complete strength on the inside.
That was tried for a short time, in the book of Acts. It didn't work. The Bible's political advice was written for the nation of Israel, for time in which it was written. It has nothing to do with other times or places.
