The way I look upon it is that if we die now and are judged now, why would we need to be judged again later when Christ returns? I believe its is more logical that when we die now, basically we wait. Just a temporary non-existence. We rot in the ground for a bit and become worm-food. Only when Christ judges us all will we come from the dead and be judged. Those who are alive at the time of the judgement will not go through that death so they are few in comparison to the millions of people that will die.

Also to add, that's the idea of Hades and Abraham's Bosom.

The "Christians only" rule was designed as a kind of consolation prize for relegating Bible quoting to this ghetto. Skip thought the bible thumping and proseletyzing in the Forum at large was getting out of hand. Some of you may also remember the days when it was impossible for Christians to carry on a discussion on the general Christian forum without mindless harassment from the anti-Chrstians who dominated that site. But we haven't exactly been fanatical about enforcing the rule. I suspect Rudenoodle, one of our frequent contributors, is not a Christian, but I think he contributes to the discussion. I hope we won't kick him out or burn him at the stake just yet (maybe a few friendly turns on the rack would be enough to straighten him out!).

Well for one thing there is no such thing as eternal hellfire, so that is one less thing you need to worry about. :D

Personally, I would say that those who do such things are not following what the bible says and I don't believe that either God or Jesus would call them Christians. ;)

Nuns with rulers! I can relate. I faced the ultimate rejection of having my parents told I'd be better off in a public school! (I drove the nuns crazy by kissing girls during recess). That's like being kicked out of East Germany during the Cold War when the commies were shooting everybody else who tried to escape. Anyhow, be thankful you've come far enough to raise these questions in a discussion forum. Your deprogramming is coming along nicely.

Does that mean a belief in eternal hellfire gets you through the night?

But wouldn't that imply that by you saying that, that what I asked is what gets you through the night? :D

    No.

For me it is a fact and truth :D Not merely a novelty cooked up to make Christianity seem "nicer" or "less judgmental". ;)

Like I said in the proverb thread: if it is easy, it is probably not good for you.

    If I may OWB:

I believe his answer will be that "hellfire" is a nonexistant punishment that was not intended by the original text and is a corruption of Jesus' Gospel.

Correct me if I am wrong in my assumption of your answer...

I believe hellfire is real but it is reserved for the anti-christ and his followers for the last days and only after they go charge at the holy city to try to destroy it. I always thought that hellfire was God's ability to destroy both body and soul and not as an actual place. When the Bible uses the phrase "forever" it uses that same phrase for when Jonah was in the fish, so forever may mean something else other than eternity. Maybe it just means, once dead, it's forever, until God brings them back out of that... forever.
