So, I wasn't a huge fan of the last two albums, but I must say, I am really digging some of her new songs off her new album. There's a song called, "Sinkin' Soon" that I really dig. My buddy recently sent me this link:

    http://soundcheck.walmart.com/norah-jones

And it shows a free performance of some of her new songs on there. I think I actually might go buy her CD this time around--I haven't bought a CD in a while.

Also, if you like Tom Waits...Norah Jones got one of the sound engineers off of the album, "Mule Variations" to assist her on the sound for this album, so it really kinda changed up her sound.

    What do ya'll think?

I think it's her second-best CD ever. She has an entirely new band and new backup singers for this album, but the biggest change is record producer Jacquire King. She and ex-boyfriend (bass player) Lee Alexander co-produced her third album, following the death of industry legend Arif Mardin. Where did King find that freaky, retro-sounding, haunting reverb mode that he used on her voice? She doesn’t need any effects, but it fits the unique feel of the album.

Without Lee Alexander in the mix, there are fewer tracks with any trace of a country feel this time, and those tracks have a much lighter touch. I never thought that country was a good fit for Norah, especially mixed in with her other material. That’s a part of why I thought her previous album was her weakest effort so far.

It’s a very good mellow CD, mature and sophisticated, but it isn’t jazz. How many pop albums does Norah have to do before we stop calling her a jazz artist? If the answer is two, then the local Best Buy has her in the right category (pop). This a great album to play on a rainy afternoon, with a glass (or two) of wine.

Wow, Karen...you seem to know your music! :)

I didn't even hear her third album because I was so disappointed by the second album. Yeah, I wouldn't label it "jazz" either.

Did you check out the performance on Soundcheck? I was actually pretty surprised by the quality of the production on that site...

The version of "Come Away With Me" on Soundcheck sounds so much better (I think) with more guitars as opposed to mainly piano (on her first CD). What do you think?

Thanks. I have a special interest in female keyboardists, because that's what I play.

Her "Little Willies" album was more interesting and original than her "official" third album under her own name. She was interviewed by Stephen Colbert this week, and she admitted that she doesn't really do any jazz anymore. Personally, I'd like to hear her do some blues standards. She has the perfect voice for it. Or for just about anything.

Yeah, the videos were good. She is a remarkably consistent performer. I had heard the guitar version of "Come Away With Me" before on a DVD. I prefer that arrangement now because the original has been overplayed so much on the radio.

She was on the Colbert Report? I wonder if I can find that anywhere.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the Soundcheck version of "Come Away With Me", for the same reason that you said, the piano version was definitely over played.

I've always enjoyed her, but she's going a bit too 'pop' for my blood. I've only heard 'chasing pirates', though, so I guess I should give the whole thing a try.

I never heard of her until I watched "Because of Winn-Dixie" That song Sunrise by Norah, it was a beautiful song, So I recently just started to get into her. I'm not really into purchasing CD's nowadays, but I think I might give this album a try, but Fleet Foxes, If you haven't heard of them, they are amazing, I'm planning to buy their album :) Check them out :p
