Just because they are friends doesn't mean they don't have to pay up. I gave my friend an 8th in late Sept. Since then the fucker got an ounce and just smoked it instead of paying his dues. So I say don't give them any breaks unless they damn well deserve it!

If it was less than 30 or you have multiple pieces I wouldn't worry about it. Just ask him to smoke you up once or twice, as then you both get high at least instead of your friend just having to pay you.
