I don't know about anyone else, but when I form my opinion on various issues, I try to get "both sides of the story." I've been a vegetarian for two years and I work at an animal shelter, so my opinion of PETA was fairly high. Today, however, i was told many stories about the 'dark side' of PETA's reports and actions. I read up on some of them and they seem to be true. So to say the least...I was kinda disappointed. Does anyone else have any information or opinions about this? I mean, are they really as bad as it looks or is this all just 'he-said-she-said' high-school shit intended to make PETA look bad?
PETA is a load of crap--I'm glad someone else has finally seen the light. Some years ago, PETA ran an ad campaign in magazines that had half the page with photos of chickens in a chicken coop and the other half with Jews in barracks in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. Regardless of whether or not you actually believe you can legitamately compare the two, what things like that do is PISS OFF a significant amount of your audience, thus DISCREDITING the entire movement. Pissing people off and being offensive is NOT how you get people to agree with you. Someone from PETA needs to take a class in rhetoric. Also, PETA offered a town in New York $15,000 to change its name from Hamburg to Veggieburg. WTF?!! The town didn't even have a fucking slaughterhouse, and to my knowledge no one from PETA even lived in that town, but someone from PETA thought it was "offensive". Yeah, you know what else is offensive? Comparing the plight of Jews under Hitler to the plight of some fucking CHICKENS. The town didn't accept the offer, but think of how many animals could have been SAVED with that kind of money! The fact that PETA even offered proves their a bunch of self-discrediting, fundamentalist nutjobs that need to shut the hell up and leave animal rights lobbying to intelligent people.
God... I hate all those fucking morons. My retarded little sister walks around her school wearing a "No Fur!" sticker as an accessory with her leather purse and boots. What a dumbass.
peta does some pretty wild stuff but i do like the sticker that says "your un-happy meal is ready" and has ronald holding a bad of animal guts HAHA
Remember when the terrorists strapped a bomb to a donkey and tried to kill a bunch of people, and they wrote a letter to the president of wherever it was complaining about donkey mistreatment? All these little kids got their legs blown off!
There was controversy over a town called Slaughterville. because it was a word to describe cruelty to animals. The town was trying to make them understand it was named after someone named Slaughter. I said what about cruelty to humans? There are many towns named Lynchville!!
lol i love that one too. yeah..peta is pretty odd. i heard (rumor) that they cut the brake lines of some guy in minnesota who was to make a delivery of oil or something. that is just mean.
Yeah, PETA is totally not what I thought they were. Well, fuck 'em. In the end all their doing is baiting people against their cause, not for it. Whatever. ...didn't know there was a town named Lynchville! lol, someone should tell them to change their name. tehe!
Wow, I'm suprised anyone out there didn't know what a fucking joke PETA is. Not a bad cause, really bad tactics.
All extremist groups have an agenda. And they will do whatever it takes, to sway as many as they can. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it can certainly leave a bad taste in the mouths of some and it can make them lose credibility. But, to the truly righteous, it doesn't matter-the ends justifies the means... No, I'm not a member of PETA.
I'm Jewish and I'm in PETA...have been in PETA since I was 14 and always will be. The "Holocaust On Your Plate" campaign is actually supported by the grandson of Jewish holocaust survivor Issac Singer. It's based on the fact that Singer himself compared the plight of animals on factory farms to holocaust victims in concentration camps. It's not meant to be anti-semetic. Also, PETA isn't the first group to use Singer's comparison and certainly won't be the last.
i do think PETA does some just absolutley ridiculous things but i believe in the cause and i think they do more good than bad, who cares if they complain about this or that, if they're making some kind of a positive difference in the mistreatment of animals, (which yes, they really are) then thats ground enouph for me to give my support, even if i do think its absurd to complain about the case of the donkey mistreatment for example
i will admit though that they have some yummy vegan recipies makes me hungry...i am goin to go have vegan chocolate cake
For those of us who believe that animals are indeed as valuable as human beings, there is nothing ridiculous about comparing the horrific conditions in factory farms and laboratories to the conditions in a concentration camp. It also always strikes me as mildly amusing that people rag on PETA for their sometimes "outrageous" tactics, ignoring the fact that what is happening in the meat and laboratory industries is FAR MORE OUTRAGEOUS than anything PETA could dream up in a million years. I'll also point out that simply because a person is a PETA member and does something stupid does NOT mean that it is automatically PETA's fault as an organization. Individuals must take responsibility for their own actions. For the most part, PETA - as an ORGANIZATION - doesn't go cutting people's brake lines as part of their official activism. They certainly can't control the behavior of their "members" - especially considering that to be a member, you only have to contribute to the charity - it's not like you become a PETA "member" and suddenly get crazy marching orders to cut brake lines or something...
Haha, that's because it's easier to intimidate little old ladies in fur than the local biker gang! She'll get to a point where the ideals sort themselves out. Gently point it out to her (why is skin ok if its shaved?)
I have to say I support some of PETA's efforts, but they need to be careful they do not alienate some of the people they should be trying to educate. Michael Moore is a great example. Some of his antics right before the election may have turned off people who were leaning toward Kerry. I hope PETA does not fall into the same trap.
can't stand PETA they give the rest of us a bad name. most hard-core PETA freaks are anti-pet and anti-zoo. "just let all the domesticated animals run free and do whatever they please." they don't think about how many animals will get sick and die or overbreed and starve. or conversely how zoos and similar organizations are doing so much great work with breeding endangered species for species survival and re-release. can you tell i work at a zoo? i don't think any of the people who work with me like PETA even remotely. how can anyone support such a short-sighted and hypocritical organization just amazes me.
