Yeah dude, that's the sad thing about wearing socks - it alieniates you from some of the most important parts of your body

As usual, I went to the nearby state park, but had some unusual experiences.

First, I came across the only park ranger I've ever seen hiking in the park. I've been hiking there almost daily for 6-1/2 years without ever seeing a ranger hiking.

Next, I came across a few people who commented on my bare feet (nothing negative). One woman surprised me because I thought she was looking at my dogs, but she asked me how I was able to walk barefoot. I gave her my "I'm used to it" response. I think she was honestly impressed that I was barefoot.

Last, I came across the first adult I've ever seen hiking barefoot. She was holding shoes, so I'm not sure how strong her motivation was for barefooting, but she was barefoot when I saw her. Maybe seeing me will give her courage to do without the shoes entirely next time.

After going to the state park, I drove to a mall with a store that specializes in Chinese massage. It's a 90-minute drive, so I take my flip flops just in case, but I've always been able to barefoot in that mall. As I was walking in, there were a few customers coming out and a couple of people standing around smoking who appeared to work at the mall. I didn't pay much attention to them other than to note their presence. As I came to the doors, one of them snuffed out his cigarette and followed me in.

Just past the set of inner doors, I heard him say, "Sir." I thought, Well, I guess my string of success here has ended. However, when I turned around, I saw that it was one of the Chinese masseurs. We walked to the store together where he proceeded to work the week's stress out of my muscles. During the walk to the store, he looked down at my feet and laughed. I've come in there barefoot every time, so I think he would have been disappointed to see anything else.

All in all, it's been a great weekend here in central Texas for barefooting. We've had warm, cloudless days with just a slight chill in the morning. I feel sorry for all you northern folk who've already had to start shoveling snow.

    Typical Colorado weather...

Last week I shoveled about 18 inches (~45 cm) of snow. Officially the total was 25 inches (64 cm). Yesterday was overcast and chilly, but today it's sunny and warm!! I took full advantage of the change in weather to lose the shoes :) :)!! I hopped in my car barefoot - it was 64 F (~18 C) when I left and was up to 70 F (~21C) when I returned. Here's where I went today.

    • King Soopers (grocery)
    • Hobby Lobby - this was funny. When I drove past the front door I could see a sign with a shoe on it. I immediately figured it was a "No Shoes/No Service" banner. Often those aren't enforced so what the heck. When I walked up, the sign actually showed a shoe with a little wheel on the bottom and a red line through it. It said "No Roller Shoes Allowed"!! So I did them one better, not only did I not wear roller shoes, I didn't wear shoes at all! No problems!
    • Post Office
    • County Government Building to drop off election ballots
    • Liquor Store

I walked around the park for about a minute and a half, but it was 47 degrees F, so that got uncomfortable quickly. I'm a wimp.

Is it unusually warm anywhere else in the country for November? I bet it's in the upper 50-lower 60s today. Still, sadly, I have not gone barefootin for a while.

Great day to "expose the toes" here in Colorado - 75 deg F (~24 deg C) and sunny. This after a big snow last week. I took advantage of the warm weather to go several places including 7 new locations I haven't been this year. That brings my total of distinct places I've visited barefoot (no repeats included) for the year to 412!

    Here's where I went today:

    • King Soopers Pharmacy (been there before)
    • Credit Union (New branch!)
    • Home Depot (New location! I'm always amazed they have the "Shirt & Shoes Required" signs yet I've never been hassled at all. That was my 7th Home Depot location to visit barefoot this year)
    • Post Office (New location! Government buildings are great places to go barefoot - never an issue)
    • Walgreen's (New location! There was an older woman behind the counter who asked me if it was that warm when I came into the store. I told her it was 75 and felt great! When I checked out she said I probably shouldn't be barefoot and might want to wear shoes next time as it's a health issue. I explained to her that it's really not and that I've dealt with that comment before. She accepted that and said she'd been told otherwise but really didn't seem to want to challenge my comment. I went on to tell her that I just hate shoes and go barefoot as long as the weather allows. She seemed to appreciate that and said she has some comfortable slippers she wears but they won't let her wear them to work. All-in-all it was a very fun, pleasant exchange! That was my 18th Walgreen's store this year and what happened today was the only question I've ever gotten)
    • King Soopers Grocery (New location!)
    • Starbuck's (New location! Went there to get a drink (vs buying beans at another shop as noted below) I've visited 32 different Starbuck's locations this year and have never had an issue. I put them near the top of my list for "Barefoot Friendly" businesses)
    • Manicure/pedicure salon (New location! Christmas shopping for a gift certificate)
    • Coffee Shop (Repeat location. I went there to buy some beans. This particular location tops my list of barefoot friendly businesses. They have free WiFi, and I've gone in there barefoot on occasion (no flip-flop safety net) and worked for a few hours and have never been hassled)

74 degrees today! I have passed up several 60 something degree days, but I couldn't pass up a 74 degree day in November. I went to the usual dollar general, but I also went to Hy Vee, a large grocery store in the midwest. I also went to aldi, family dollar, 2 gas stations, wal greens, and k mart. On a side note, I don't think my soles have ever gotten as dirty as they were today. i walked down an isle in family dollar and i noticed that i had walked through some of the crumbs from a ripped char coal bag. looks like i'd been barefoot for weeks!

Saturday I went food shopping, the DIY store to buy nails and a new saw. Then went to the scrap yard to find a replacement part for my car (really dirty job this one). Finally stopped off for a beer with friends.

  12. Nice day here in Pennsylvania---upper 60s. Barefootin' through a state park!

Just got back from a trip to Iowa. It's great to go someplace new - lots of new places to add to my list of places I've gone barefoot. Anyhow, here's my list from the past few days.

    • Denver Airport (already on my list)
    • Quad Cities Airport - Moline, IL
    • Casey's General Store - Davenport, IA
    • Subway - Blue Grass, IA
    • Comfort Inn - Muscatine, IA. I spent about 30 minutes barefoot behind the desk with the receptionist trying to get my boarding pass to print. She thought my bare feet were pretty cool!
    • HyVee Grocery - Muscatine, IA (a bit of a chilly walk from the hotel)
    • RiteAid ( a new local location)
    • Walgreen's (a new local location)
    • Dazbog Coffee (a repeat visit)
    • Credit Union (a new branch)
    • Subway (a new local location)
    • Post Office (repeat visit)
When I was returning from my trip it was a bit chilly, so I just left my dress clothes on - including the leather shoes. When I got off the plane in Denver, one of the passengers came up to me and asked if I was barefoot the previous day. I was caught a bit off-guard, but replied that yes, I was. He had been on my outbound flight the previous day and had noticed I boarded and flew barefoot. He also works from home, but said he puts on sandals when he goes out. I explained that I just decided to start making coffee runs barefoot, got no resistance, and just started going barefoot everywhere over time. He seemed to like my practice, but I'm not sure he was ready to go for it himself. Anyhow, he said if he sees someone barefoot in the airport again, he'll probably recognize it's me!

Two malls, a bank, the post office and a hardware shop. There is a notice at the door of the hardware shop saying that shoes must be worn, and the person at the door looked down at my bare feet, but again, being on crutches seemed to work, and in I went. I was stopped a few minutes later and was told I should be wearing a shirt, but no mention of bare feet at all.

Today my thermometer said 63! needless to say i was off to do some barefootin. Oddly enough, as the temps get lower, so does my confidence. Normally the dollar general is so so easy for me to shop barefoot. But today I got there, and the parking lot was FULL! If it had been summer, that wouldn't have mattered at DG. But I got really nervous and ended up not bf'ing in dg. Feeling defeated (get it... defeated lol), I did go to a different DG that wasn't as full and got in my bf'ing for the latter part of Nov. I guess as the temp drops I am not as comfortable barefootin. anyone else share this?

Neither am I, especially as the holidays approach and stores everywhere are busier than usual. That's when I might give in and put on the flip-flops or if it's colder than 50F/10C, then I'll wear shoes and socks, albeit very reluctantly. :(
