It's written by a Irish, about his childhood & struggle in Ireland. He's now in US. The book is great, very touching. Though there're bastards out there, there're good people will help u. The first 300 pages are especially good (in my opinion), coz if u only read the last 60 pages, u'd think he's a traitor and wouldn't do his bit for Ireland (this, is also my opinion) As a boy, i didn't cry reading it, but almost. im sure there're many had a good cry.
The movie is crap. I've read it several times. First in elementary school, then I met Frank McCourt kind of accidentally, then again in middle school, and finally my senior year in high school for my lit class. I love the book. It's depressing but it's just so interesting as it's shown from a child's eyes. There's a sequel, 'Tis, that doesn't really get much better. Supposedly there is a sequel to that as well, but I haven't read it.
Yes, im wondering if i should read the sequel. im afraid it'll be a crap there're so many movies/sequels screwed up great works
No, I WISH I had him as a teacher. I don't think he teaches anymore but he taught high school around NYC and Long Island. Once I was at Monticello (Jefferson's home) on the 4th of July on a family vacation and he was speaking. So of course I freaked out and managed to talk to him briefly. I think the only reason he talked to me was because I was pretty young- 11 or so.
Angela's Ashes and 'Tis are inspirational. Read, A Monk Swimming and Singing My Hymn Song by the other McCourt brother Malachi, that guy can really tell a tale. Love the McCourts!
I'm a McCourt fan!! I've read Angelas Ashes, tis and teacher man.. I wanna branch out to Malachys books as well.. I also have some documentarys on DVD by malachys son conner.. Inspiring!
It's beautiful. The movie is nice too. I love Frank McCourt. I bought 'Tis a couple of months ago. I've been meaning to read it for so long... I really should - I just have so many damn books sitting around.
Okay, I'm going to bump this from years ago. I just love this book. I love "'Tis" and Malachi's books as well, "A Monk Swimming" and "Singing My Him Song". Talented family. I also used to watch "Oz" that Malachi played in for a while. When I was in highschool I had a teacher who grew up in Limerick and I mentioned the book and she got all crabby. She said "that's not what Limerick is like at all, he lied about the whole thing." I've heard that it angered a lot of people. They didn't like how he portrayed the Irish. I've heard that there is supposedly a book call "'Tis My Arse" that is from the people that are pissed at Frank McCourt, but I haven't been able to find anything about it. It's just a rumour I heard.
Yea, the irish can be like that - they don't like it when criticized especially by "one of their own". I believe it when Frank Mc describes Limerick and it's people. I heard he once got into a fight with the actor Richard Harris who was another non-believer of Frank Mc's portrayal. A wonderful book as is 'tis, I was not so impressed with teacher man though, sadly.
