so, i'm re-reading "the turner diaries" and it's really scary how relevant and similar it is to what's going on in our country right now. was wondering if anyone could recommend any other fiction that has some of that same scary relevance. just looking for some new stuff to read and share.
the sheep look up the jagged orbit stand on zanzibar (all by john brunner) ~ a scanner, darkly (philip k dick) ~ island (aldous huxley) ~ ~ ~
the summer of love by lisa mason? this is sci-fi but the talking about the future in it reminds me of now confessions of a hope fiend by timothy leary talks about the man, baby!
George Orwell's 1984 read it you'll see how by a wild stretch of the imagination and continued corruptness it fosters a distant reality.
i read 1984 back in high school, along with brave new world and animal farm. iihad been planning on re-reading 1984 as soon as i finish the turner diaries. i've been recommending both to a lot of people recently and just felt like re-reading them for myself.
Read some Tom Robbins books. They don't directly refer to our present state, but they will definately get you thinking about what got us here.
If you want to read about what we SHOULD be doing now, I suggest "Ecotopia" and "Ecotopia Emerging" by Ernest Callenbach. In short, a group of "Blue States" seceed from the US, to form a "stable-state ecological society". Hippie Homeland, baby!
