Why are they always such unlikeable douchebags? Recently I've had the displeasure of watching Zack and Miri make a porno, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, that dumb fucking "I love you man" and a couple similar flicks. The main dude in every one of these flicks has hardly anything going for him. They are usually negative, in poor shape, whiny, needy, annoying little bitches without social skills and yet they inevitably end up with "the girl" who is, without exception, a smoking hottie. What gives? What is the underlying message here? Are these protagonists supposed to be easy to relate to? (In which case I worry greatly for the average American male)
I agree 100% I like a romantic comedy where I would actually like to know the male protagonist. Generally these days I always hate every character in romance movies. The girls are always attractive bitches and the guys are ugly morons. Not fun to watch.
No, that's just reality. If there is a movie with a male protagonist and a female love interest that female love interest will be very attractive. Right or wrong, this is how the movie industry functions. It is not sexist to observe this fact.
I think lots of men don't see themselves as all that good-looking or cool. It's probably a big male fantasy to imagine getting an improbably hot woman. What does all of this say about the men who write, produce and direct these movies?
