Not a magic mushroom. It is a real culinary mushroom being quite tasty as an addition to sauces. Species coprinus micaceus.
You cannot accurately identify a mushroom from one picture, especially to the species. I can say for sure that those aren't any type of Psilocybe or Panaeolus. Don't get excited over every mushroom you see unless you just naturally get excited over mushrooms. That is a nice looking little cluster there, though.
Because I've spent years and years studying mushrooms and those don't have any of the traits of a Pan or Psilocybe. They're the wrong shape, and the caps don't come out enough, even on the mature one you have there. They are probably a Coprinus species I bet if you watch them for a couple days, the cap will start to melt.
Actually there is enough macro feature detail in the photo for me to invest my gut. From my own familiarity of the species, I would collect and consume from the field without the need for further assurances. But you are correct that one must be certain in his own identification.
Mushrooms are cute. It's okay to get excited when you find mushrooms ...Just don't go around eating random mushrooms you find
yeah its cool to find any species of mushrooms growing.. no matter what kind they are, they are amazing to look at.. even better if they are a species that gives you something a little extra to look at..
yah... they look good.. but they arent... i'm so used to seeing mexicana in my area.. they look so ugly ><
I've heard Mexicana are easier to cultivate than Cubensis provided a little mycoknowledge. Not sure though. I just knocked some Koh Samui "Super" a few days ago and already 40-50% colonized!
If you're trying to grow sclerotia, yeah, it is. But if you're trying to fruit it, it'll be kind of hard. You basically 'noc up the jars and wait.
