No, you do need a European point of view because the BBC news as a whole in comparison to most other news sites is fantastic in the fact it doesn't give opinion or analysis(except in articles specifically meant for it) and is great at just listing the fact, who, what, where, when, how, why.

But seriously, throw out a topic, state your view on it. That's how politics are discussed.

This is interesting. You've got me with the bitchy one-liners, but I'd like to see an example of anything resembling sycophantic praise. That's not my game.

But more to the point, I'm not political, so my contributions are by necessity limited. Before you go there, you're right, I shouldn't be posting in this forum if I'm not political. There are, however, some interesting threads here that don't really fall under the FOX/CNN version of politics. Those are the threads I'm interested in. Endless bitching and text-dumps about capitalism being outdated and all of its supporters being outdated, corporatist warmongers are not my thing. None of these partisan bitch-fests every get anywhere.

Like what? The only thing I've ever seen some bias on is healthcare, and that's because in nearly every other industrialized country it boggles their mind how we don't have some form of universal healthcare. Even when it came to gun debates during election season the BBC reporters took a pretty neutral view, and these are people from a country with some of the strictest gun laws in existence.

Like what's going on in the middle east. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan.

I'm not going to go into details, because soon as I say something, the political goons of this forum are going to show up.

That's not a very good argument to make to then. What political goons? This place is near dead most of the time now.

See, ''arguments'' is what I trying to avoid.

One thing I learned quick here, you can't talk politics or religion.

It always turns into an argument, no matter what.

And to be honest, I don't know what the political threads are like nowadays.

I guess some folks have nothing to say since they can't bash Bush no more. (Unless your Keith Olbermann) And now they can't say anything bad about Obama, because they fucked up and voted for this jerk.

And if you say anything bad about Obama, you're a right wing racist who is brain washed by Fox News.

Then you have the flat out people who hate America, and live to bash the gool ol' U.S.A. every chance the get.

So, why would you want to talk politics in depth here?

It's a political debate forum though, arguments are the entire point. And there are sane posters here, in fact most people here have some serious beef with Obama and generally like America, it's the rest of hip forums that are the opposite.

Well, what is something that is very important to you?

Start by listing things that you value - and seek out the problems you find in the world. That's how you make conflict and issues become something political.

You're always welcome to come here and just strike up a conversation about a movement, a law, a situation, anything that you find yourself passionate about and how it affected you. That's a good way to start. And the building process will come naturally.

But you should in fact start a convo about something, the politics forum has been lagging.

If you don't take yourself too seriously then the joke's on the guy who does.

I'm not saying everyone needs to be interested or active in politics. I think if you are interested, fine, if not, fine. But it would suck if you feel driven out by cranks or mods.

    Why not?
TBH, are their articles really the "European point of view"?

To be fair, The BBC articles do have the bulk of a story...and don't resort to their own opinions...there are sections of the BBC website that have personal opinions...e.g: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/nickrobinson/

OP: "I wish I could talk politics".
    Me too...
TBH, I don't think politics is discussed in the politics forum...bizarely enough.
Aside from "Don't believe any of those cunts" "Don't fall for the left/right paradigm" etc etc blah blah blah.

Personally, I think the easiest way to seem like you are talking politics...is to have an opinion on the issues of the day...
You obviously have to look into what issues of the day are...so perhaps, say, if the issue is UN inspections towards Iran...one guess where the best place to look up what is going on with the UN inspections?
You've guessed it (I hope) the UN website concerning Iranian inspections (or lack of them.)

I guess the best place to find out about things is from the horses mouth...then form an opinion based on that.
Then your opinions might become "political" (if that makes any sense ).

Whoa, here I just wanted the fastest solution to the query in my OP, and the conversation shot off in five different directions.

Hiptastic, I think is people just learned to not get so offended by contentious statement, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

    I hear ya.

Its just that the forum isn't in the best of health so some of us wonder if the place could use some fixing.

So why don't you kick it off, tell us what political topics interest you.

    Familiarity.

That's what first came to my mind.

Perhaps the exodus of too many forumers who had lots to say.

Perhaps you and I....apparently we are working for Israeli intelligence or some such organisation. ;)

    I dunno, Hiptastic.
I know I stopped coming here so much when RT went to the wall.

    What do you think?

I agree the closing of RT sucked a lot of life out of HF, unfortunately. Couldn't be helped.

I think certain people who 'left' helped keep the place bubbling.

I think certain people have strangled the life out of the place due to napoleon complexes.

Or maybe the political world isn't that exciting at the moment?

    "Couldn't be helped"...now there's a conversation I'd like to have with you.
Sadly, I don't think we can have that conversation.

    Definitely.
The people I usually "talked" to don't really post here anymore, and when they do...I'm far too cynical with them.
When I stood back from the forum...
It did seem like most people were stuck in their own ruts...
and all there was nothing too new being said.

    Mentioning no names, obviously. ;)

    Oh it is, IMO.
I've certainly not stopped talking about the political world...just not here, sadly.

What's RT? And why was it closed?
