Wow, reading some of the post on here I realize just how much of a wimp I am, haha. Anyways...

I just got one of my ears pierced for a third time and this is the first one that I've ever gotten in the cartilage. Is there anything that I need to do differently than I did with the lobe piercings? I read that you shouldn't turn it, is that true? Thanks, I appreciate any answers!

Only twist it when you are cleaning it.
Otherwise, you can get icky things into the fresh piercing, and tear the new skin that is forming over the inside of it.

Did you use a needle or a gun?
If you used a gun, they probably gave you some crap to clean it. Throw that out.
I have four cartilage piercings, and for each I've always used salt water and dial soap.

if you had it pierced with a gun, you need to be very careful and make sure you keep it very clean. like sarah again said use salt water to clean it, when you have a stud in there they can get very badly infected. i usually advise people to gave it peirced with a needle. they always seem to heal better. hope you get some good advice and that your piercing heals well. =]]

I second the healing thing, most of my (wimpy) friends went down to the mall and got a hole punched in them with a gun, and all them took a veeeeeeerry long time to heal. Mine, all needle, Never hurt from day one, and healed beautifully. (I had rings, also)

Now, that could be because it varies from person to person, but I still maintain that needles are safer, used by a more skillful person, and aid in the proper healing of a piercing.

Thanks for the info! I got it done with a gun, so I'll be sure to be careful.

look out for an extremely hot/red ear. while a bit of bruising is normal to begin with, excessive heat can signify infection. it's especially important that you watch for this since yours was done with a gun.

i never recommend twisting a new piercing... in my experience, it always makes for rougher healing. sea salt soaks and h2ocean spray are what i typically use to clean.
