new hippie movement?

That is my point. It is not possible from a practical standpoint. What we find practical is simply what we have practiced. We learn to take care of our selves, off the grid. The earth supports the human being, regardless the human being supporting the system. The system that is in place at this time is not a political system. It is an authoritarian system called the monetary system. Until we ween ourselves from the monetary system, we can never embrace the resource system with any real confidence of success.

 

Well, when all our money is electronic, maybe some awesome hacker can put us into a state of anarchy for awhile and when shit settles down, the people left will say fuck money =P

 

Some people are actually developing strategies for how to switch the cycle in a painless and incremental manner, beginning with education. Part of the problem is that so many people are unaware that alternatives are even being developed.

 

You have any recommendations for where I could read up on this?

I apologize for calling you a hippie, I got the wrong impression when you said "you believe some of the ideals" or w/e you said. I'm totally confused by you dude. You act as if I was bragging about being a hippie. I posted on some elses thread, and you felt the responsibility to question me. You said you would never call yourself one, and I said it's not a shameful thing. I'm not one of those who takes the 'label' as an ego booster. If your a hippie, your a hippie.

I'm lost what your trying to prove to me. I don't care if you like hippies, are one, think the movement failed, or anything your saying. I respect your opinion, but I disagree. You have your mind made up and i'm not gonna sit here repeating myself to someone with 14,000 posts, because you could obviously sit around forever. I believe in the movement, ideals and you can also not influence this either. It's pointless to sit here and post back and fourth. If the movement failed then that would say a lot about 'society' then hippies. Hippies supported Peace&Love, freewill, non violence, etc. If it didn't help the country then that shows where most peoples values were. They were close-minded to nearly anything hippies were trying to do, because they didn't "believe" in their lifestyle. You can't blame the counter culture for the masses. The masses are what brought the birth of the hippie. They were a product of the times.

A hippie is someone who shares beliefs and ideas. That's what a HIPPIE is. That's why they share that name, that's what were called. Not because anyone who is a hippie is trying to stick to a label. It's ironic how you "label" Hippies that call themselves Hippies, as basically fake. When you say hippie most people have a general idea of what we stand for. Things have names so people know what the hell your talking about easily. Your basically saying that no one should be called a hippie because it's un-hippie like to be labeled, that's insane. It's not a label, it's a name dude. You can easily tell who a real hippie is.

If you think being labeled is shameful, and state your not a hippie, why do you care? But don't accuse me or anyone else of taking the NAME hippie as a label/ego-boost. It's not a label if you believe the ideals. If you like the thought of being labeled anything your not a hippie, I agree. But calling yourself or someone else a hippie is just calling it like it is. I also agree that there are some out there that take it as an ego boost, but it's not most. No one even calls me a hippie. But if they were asked if I was a hippie they'd definitely say yes. People who KNOW me, people I've known my whole life, not someone on HF who's taken it upon their shoulders to tell hippies 'whats up'. Where are the real hippies? Are you serious? Why don't you tell me bro. Their where ever life has taken them. We're everywhere, all over the world.

This was fun while it lasted, but i'm done with it. It's great that you know what your talking about man, and that you share some of the ideals. It's great you talk about important things like this. Your difference is what makes you, you. You state clearly your not a hippie. But I am, and others are as well. And just like many other crowds there are the real, and the fake. Don't let people who are fake, influence your opinion about the real deal. That's advice for all peoples, not just hippies. Just remember for every fake hippie, there's a real one out there. Most likely closer then you think.

And although we clash heads over this subject, I don't/haven't judged you. So why do you judge me as fake?

wow you guys are gettin into this.thats what i was hoping for.yes our movement would be different.we would be fighting for different things.think about all thie shit that is goin on into days world.the best place to get people to "hop on the bus" as they use to say, would be to go to festivals and shows and let people know whats on our mind and what we want to change and that we need help.im sick of posers that call themselves hippies cause they wear tie dyes listen to classic rock and smoke a joint here an there.

I wasn't meaning to imply you are definitely one of those. I don't know you well enough to fairly say one way or another.
I do however think it's misguided to think that the perception of the people you are trying to change is unimportant.

And I didn't say every hippie that calls themselves hippies were fake, either.
Just most.
Most people of every subculture are only half into the ideals they claim. Posers are in every group.

People do have names so you can talk about them easier, sure - but sometimes easiest isn't what's best. I think the times we live in are a true document to that.
Labels put us into groups - they separate us from each other. When I call myself white, I am saying that I am not black. When you call yourself hippie you are saying that you are not a member of the mainstream, you are not the majority, and most importantly (and damaging to your causes); you are not the average person.

God dude, I meant that the type of clothes and price does not matter. You should wear what you like no matter if it's not the 'in' style. I was talking about girls wearing coach and prada bags but wear the peace sign earings/ jewelry. Materialistic people. Those who can only find happiness with money and wealth. Those EVERYONE knows would choose money, fame and THINGS over anything. Basically if you wear the peace sign but have no idea what it stands for, your wearing it because others are. That's a fashion statement. Self expression is wearing what you want, because you want too. Being able to express your self through clothes is your personal right. It is not as important as world peace, unity, non-violence. I meant clothes take a backseat to matters that actually deal with other humans.

I've pointed out apparent contradictions in your attitudes, sure - but that's one of the staples of true debate. You're supposed to counter-argue and defend yourself, justify yourself, or argue my prospective. What's playing the victim and demonizing me going to do?
