I'm sure this question has been asked before but I was just wondering what the best way to dye dreadlocks is, and whether semi-permanent or permanent dye is better? I used to have blonde hair before I got dreads, then I decided to dye it back to my natural colour (very dark brown) it took a couple of weeks to get it back but I did Now that I've had the dreads for 7 weeks, I can see the dye is starting to fade, they've gone a light brown/bronzy colour and the roots are alot darker than the tips! I really didn't want to dye my dreads ever but I guess I have to
Pour a gallon of bleach into a bucket and dip your head into it. Or you could spend 5min thumbing through the 8.7million other threads about dying and then ask a more specific question if your question hasn't been answered by doing so...just a thought Permanent or semi-permanent is a personal choice - do you want permanent hair dye? Then use permanent, yk?
whatever you say. forget it, I'm sorry I asked I'm sick of all the people who just have a go and don't actually answer my question. Just press the freaking back button and think "ha ha how silly she didn't think to spend "5 minutes" (oh suuure) scrolling up and down millions and millions of threads to find the answer to one question instead of just asking it again!" I don't want your patronising replies, I want answers to my questions, and if you don't have, DON'T POST ANYTHING HERE PLEASE. :toetap05:
LOL since when did mamamojojojo become the hair dye police? I personally have never dyed my hair since locks, but I've read enough dye dread threads, so I think I can give you an answer that may be a little more helpful than mamamojojo's. From what I hear locks soak up a lot more dye than your regular hair so to be safe you may want to buy two boxes of your hair dye. You use the dye just as you would as if you were dying regular hair. than RINSE RINSE RINSE. You'll probably be rinsing hair dye out of your head for a few days (at the least) but try to get as much out as possible the day of. I had my hair dyed black before my b/f t&r my hair for the first set. The day before he did them I went to the salon and had my hair dyed back to its original colour. After two months I took them out. After 2 washes with regular hair.. my hair had lightened a huge amount! ( I than of course had this set done by him again blablabla) That's all the advice I have for you. Hope it helps some
ok, nijisar chill. dying dreads is the same as dying normal hair. you just have to buy more dye. if you want the colour to stay then use permanant, if you want it to wash out use a semi. I use permanant because I hate the look of washed out dyes. If your planning on a drastic change I'd use a semi though..
sorry about snapping, it's just so many people have given me patronising replies that was just the last straw. thanks for the replies, no drastic change intended, literally just one or two shades darker is all I want, but definitely a permanent change. I just thought maybe with dreads, the semi-permanent dye would last alot longer, especially as I'm barely changing the colour at all. oh another thing! WHat about the conditioners you get afterwards? Should that even be used or chucked away straight out, cause I know how damaging and drying hair dye can be
There is a "Search this forum" feature where you can type in what you are looking for. No one said thumb through every thread
I'm a dark dyer and it's a real bitch matching what colour's on the box to how it's gonna look in a month or three. Doesn't help that my hair is a really dull brown/black - I've yet to find anything that matches my roots. (Currently growing out my grey to see what happens.) But yeah, dark dye over lightened hair will sometimes take another dose down the road, sad to say. Maybe indigo? Haven't yet worked with that stuff. Might be worth looking into
i would use semi because it will be so much less damaging on your locks. you dont want perm. to fry your hair and cause your locks to break off since you have had lighter on your head to begin with when it was blond. Just advice from a cosmetologist, i dont have dread myself though.
Then go permanent, you'd be surprised how poor some semi hair dyes are not to mention expensive. No. These are Basically industrial strength conditioners. They are designed to help the hair that the dye has damaged. I would only recommend these conditioners if you've had the dreads over a year and strongly dilute it.
