Cannabis and Marijuana???

Excuse my naivety, but are cannabis and marijuana the same thing or different?
If they are different which slang terms are used for each? e.g weed.

Cannabis is the term used with plants containing THC for medical use, Marijuana is for term for recreational use. These days kids call it cannabis - but the correct terminology is marijuana.

(Funnily enough I had this conversation last night with a few friends, "Do you know what the difference between cannabis and Marijuana?")

However, there are many different terms, some say Marijuana is the end product and cannabis is the plant.
